Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that, if left untreated, causes Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (scarring of the uterus and fallopian tubes that can lead to infertility), Epididymitis (an infection of the epididymis), and a range of other infections.  Chlamydia is spread through sexual contact, and can be prevented by using a latex condom.  The symptoms of Chlamydia are not always prominent (up to 75% of women and 50% of men have no symptoms) and include painful urination, abdominal pain, abnormal discharge in men and women, and pain during sexual intercourse.  Chlamydia is treated with antibiotics such as azithromycin (Zithromax), doxycycline, or tetracycline.  Both partners must be treated as one can become infected again.
