RASA General Meeting Minutes (1/21/2010)
I. Members’ concerns & Grad student meeting
   a. Publicize more – even for general meetings
   b. Grad students and undergrad relationship – grads can advise and answer questions about grad school, being international, etc
   c. Have joined meetings with other cultural groups and get to know others, have an event together possibly
   d. The language people – international day – food samples from each country and get exposed to all the groups. Use food to get people to come.
   e. Location - use central locations – e.g. Kelly Lounge. When people come to dinner, they go eat with their friends. . . and not come to the meeting
   f. Leadership – take initiative! Siju and I will be gone soon : (
   g. Strengthen grad/undergrad relationship – potluck and meeting to discuss ideas and planning
   h. Get the website done
   i. African retreat/trip together before the seniors graduate
   j. Marx will be planning a potluck sometime in mid Feb – Feb 20?
II. What people liked from last semester
   a. Free food (potluck)
   b. Dinner mixer (first one)
   c. Movie night
III. Meeting times
   a. Conflicts with NESB
   b. Ugo has lab
   c. Looks like Monday at 6pm is good – more later to confirm
IV. Community service events
   a. Walk for Water Feb 20 – RASA will participate (participants in the walk: Siju, Sarah, Haruka, Irene), people who will advertise and help set up: Boahemaa. Boahemaa will be in charge & contact Sonume.
      i. Advertise with/during the cookout!
   b. Nuru International –nay we will not participate
   c. Change for Haiti – Caroline will head this up
      i. Need empty jars/shoe boxes. . . please give to Siju
V. Cookout
   a. Need volunteers for bake sale – bakers AND sellers
      i. Bakers: Boahemaa, Sarah Agara, Esther, Ashley
      ii. Seller: Siju, Ugo, Jeremiah,
      iii. Sell to houses on Rice Boulevard? Only if selling in the colleges is unsuccessful
      iv. Set up a table at the student center – grad students w/ Marx permission to sell. Ask Aisha about the rules.
b. Volunteers needed: cooks, servers, set up/decoration, ticket sellers
      i. Cooks: Esther (tentative), Siju, Haruka, Marx and his grad students friends
      ii. Servers: Boahemaa, Siju, Haruka, Sunmi, Jeremiah, Sherry
      iii. Set Up/Decorate: Esther, Irene, Haruka, Siju, Ugo, Sherry
      iv. Ticket Sales: Ugo, Siju, Haruka, Marx, Irene, Sherry (maybe)
      v. BTW: officers don’t really have a choice – you must help out!
   c. Colors: black & green, traditional clothes or t-shirts
      i. Boahemaa objects to the color – suggests we add red or another bright color
   d. Dance: Jacob & Ugo are signed up! Practice starts next week – Aisha and Irene are in charge
      i. Jeremiah & Sunmi will join too! Yay!
   e. Marx’s friend has also volunteered to do an Egyptian belly dance performance at the cookout, yay!
VI. Other news/events
   a. MLA Food Night by MSA and BSA – Feb 2
      i. Possibly a grad person will participate?
   b. Africa Texas Summit Feb 22-24
      i. Haruka will send out info via email and email Adria letting her know we’ll volunteer
   c. SNMA Black History Month
      i. Program held by UT Houston’s African club – might be fun to attend!
