Shows

The South Asian Society hosts two shows a year--one every semester. The Fall show is known as Dhamaka, the Hindi word for explosion, and is typically hosted in the RMC Grand Hall. As the name suggests, the show is power-packed with a variety of performances—ranging from dances to musical performances to skits. The show is performed twice, usually on a Friday and Saturday, and dinner is included in the ticket price and served after the show. The Spring show is known as SAS Night and is typically hosted in Hamman Hall. It features a similar collection of performances to Dhamaka and is usually held on a Saturday night. Dinner is served after the show in the RMC Grand Hall.

Our shows are usually sold out so get your tickets early!

SAS Retreat

Towards the beginning of the spring semester, the South Asian Society organizes a retreat to welcome back members from their winter break. The retreat usually takes place in Galveston, where the organization rents out a beach house and members spend a night there. It is an extremely fun and relaxing atmosphere as members have the opportunity to cook and enjoy dinner, as well as spend the night playing board games or antakshari. It is definitely an event not to miss!

SAS Banquet

The banquet is the final SAS event of the year and is complimentary to all due-paying members. The event is the official turnover of the SAS, where the new officers of the organization take over from the old officers. New officers usually perform a variety of skits and games to provide a feel for what the next year is going to look like. Dinner is catered and the evening rounds off looking at photos of SAS members during the academic year.
