I spent the first 15 years of my career doing
hands-on human factors in the telecommunications and
defense industry. This work was performed across a wide variety of human interfaces, from telephones and television set-top boxes to
assembly aids and jigs. This broad exposure introduced me to the entire
range of tools required for a well-round human factors professional. Since joining Rice University, I have focused on the measurement of usability across a number of different kinds of systems, including voting, medical, mobile, education, and transportation.
