TERM PROJECT

Project Description:

Your task is to design and construct an interactive, educational game that integrates and reiterates the knowledge that you have acquired during the semester. The class will be split into groups of 5 and each team will be responsible for creating a challenging game to be played by their classmates. The aim of this project is to encourage you to be creative and put together the course material in a way that is engaging and fun.

During the last week of class (12/1 & 12/3), all students will have the opportunity to play each game for 30 minutes. Students will be assigned into one of five groups so that a team member from each game is present within any given group. As the groups rotate between games, the group member who helped design the game will give a brief 3-5 minute presentation of the rules. Each team member will have the opportunity to explain the game, so everyone should well-prepared before coming to class on Monday. Each team will also be responsible for submitting one 2-page summary describing your game.

Requirements:

players :

must accommodate 5-6 players

game duration :

20-60 minutes (note: game does not have to be completed in 30 min)

skill level :

target the game to the knowledge & experience of your classmates;
the game does not need to be accessible to the general public

props/manufactured materials :

the game should be primarily hand-made;
small props, such as figurines, can be used

presentation :

limited to 5 minutes or less;
needs to explain the game concept and rules;
will be given once by each team member

2-page summary :

describe the game concept, why you designed it that way, and how it's played

 

Grade-Breakdown:

The term project counts for 50% of your final grade. Your grade will be based on the following criteria:

20% creativity
20% effort
20% content
20% ease of play
10% game & rules introduction
10% 2-page summary
