In 2001, NASA's Genesis mission will send a spacecraft to collect pieces of the sun to help us better understand what the Sun is made of and if the Sun and other planets are made of the same stuff. The GRACE mission will accurately map variations in the Earth's gravity field over a 5 year period. This program will help us to better understand ocean surface currents and heat transport, the mass balance of ice sheets and glaciers, changes in sea-floor pressure and runoff and groundwater storage on landmasses.
