Language and Society

In the Fall of 2007 I taught a course at Rice University called Language and Society, or LING 205. This course is basically an undergrad introduction to sociolinguistics, covering topics ranging from the history of American English dialects, quantitative and qualitative methods for analyzing linguistic variation, language ideology and discrimination, and the relationship between language, gender, and sexuality, amongst other topics.
