Impact of the
Model Science Lab Project

The Model Lab Project has garnered several awards, including the Governorís Award for Exemplary Partnership.   More importantly, over the 6 years of this project, the Model Lab trained teachers have taught thousands of their own students and have trained hundreds other teachers who teach a total of over 208,125 students each year.   The impact on the district has been significant.

  • Four School Districts:    Most of our efforts have been concentrated on Houston Independent School District, but we expanded to three other districts with the Texas Education Agency Eisenhower Collaboratives.

  • 104 Schools:    We have impacted all 36 middle schools in Houston Independent School District, 60 elementary schools, and 8 schools from other districts.

  • Over 470 teachers:    Many of these teachers have attended workshops and institutes throughout the six year period that the RML has been in existence.

  • Over 15,560 students: These students have been taught directly by trained Resident Teachers who return to a full teaching load at their home schools, impacting a minimum of 130 students per teacher per year.

  • Maintaining the underlying focus on student understanding, the Model Lab has supported teachers in long term goals of improving their classroom efforts and providing the best of opportunities for the youth of Houston.
