COURSE ASSIGNMENTS
Homework
One homework problem set will be assigned approximately every
week. Homework will be handed out on Wednesday and due the following Wednesday.
A "pre-test" homework will be assigned the first day of class. Students
should work independently on this assignment. A score of 100 will be assigned
if a good-faith effort is made. See BIOE 252 Homework Schedule for detailed
dates and topics.
Homework will be due at the beginning of class lecture (11:00 a.m.) on the day
it is due. No late homework will be accepted without permission of the instructor
before the homework is due. Illness and family emergencies will be dealt with
on an individual basis. Grades on other late homeworks will be reduced 25% per
day (including weekends). Solutions to homework problems will be made available
in a binder outside Dr. Saterbak's office (Keck 109) soon after the homework
is due. Individuals turning in late homeworks are expected to not consult the
posted homework solutions (Honor Code). Students may not consult homework from
previous years (Honor Code).
Exams
There will be two exams, tentatively scheduled to be passed out October 3 and
November 7, and a final exam to be scheduled during the week of finals. The
exams given during the semester will be take-home exams. Late exams will not
be accepted. The instructors retains the right to fail a student who does not
turn in either exam or the final.
Projects
There will be an interviewing project in September where bioengineers from industry
and the medical center will come to campus to talk with students in this class.
A written report and oral presentation will be required. In terms of grading,
the interviewing project will be weighed as a homework.
A larger design project is scheduled for October - December. Students will be
divided into teams and will do a project on the lungs. A written report and
oral presentation will be required. The design project will count for 20% of
the final grade.
See BIOE 252 Project Schedule for details on due dates. Further details on the
projects will be available later.
