Frequently asked questions about the Rice NAACP

When and where are meetings held?
Meetings are generally held at 9:00pm at the Student Organizational Space in the RMC Basement, every other Monday of the month. Check the calendar for specifics, any changes, and other activities.

What's the difference between the NAACP and other organizations on campus, such as the Black Student Association?
As stated on our mission statement, the Rice NAACP's goal is to achieve political, educational, social, and economic equality for all racial minority groups. While the BSA certainly shares these values, it is primarily a social organization.

Who can join the NAACP?
Anybody can join! The NAACP is open to all students, both grad and undergrad, faculty, and staff as well as community members.

How can I join the Rice NAACP?
We've made it easy for you. Just go to the "become a member" section of our website, fill out the form, and bring your dues to the next meeting.

How much are membership dues?
Membership dues are $30 for an adult membership (comes with Crisis Magazine) if you are over 21 and over or $15 if you are 20 and under and this also includes Crisis. Please check the calendar for limited time membership discounts.

Do I have to pay the dues to be in the Rice NAACP?
We strongly encourage that as many people as possible pay dues so that they can be official members of our chapter and of the national organization. If you have not paid dues but would like to come and participate in the meetings, we appreciate whatever involvement and support you bring.
