The Flute/Clarinet Duos Consortium (FCDC) was founded in 2000 by a group of professional flutists and clarinetists who teach at universities and perform across the United States. We are a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization with a primary goal of enriching the limited chamber music repertoire for flute and clarinet through commissioning leading composers to create new works for our instruments.
Our other major activities include arranging regional premieres of our commissioned works, identifying composers who would potentially be interested in writing for flute and clarinet (either as a duo or combined with other instruments), encouraging the publication of new works for our instruments, soliciting new FCDC members, and seeking major donors for our commissioning projects.
Libby Larsen's Barn Dances is our first commission, and was premiered at the National Flute Association convention in Dallas in August, 2001. Now published by Oxford University, Barn Dances was made possible through very generous support from the Brannen-Cooper Fund, and generous donations from the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble, newEar of Kansas City, and these duos:
- Rebecca Tryon Andres and Michael Andres (Cincinnati)
- Betsy Bogner Wong and Bradley Wong (Kalamazoo)
- Leone Buyse and Michael Webster (Houston)
- Jill Felber and Paul Bambach (Santa Barbara)
- Leonard Garrison and Shannon Scott (Tulsa)
- Jan Gippo and Jane Carl (St. Louis and Kansas City)
- Jennifer and Michael Isadore (Stafford, TX)
- Rhian Kenny and Jack Howell (Pittsburgh)
- Leslie Timmons and Nicholas Morrison (AirFare, Utah State)
- Helen Ann and Richard Shanley (Waco)
- Diane Gold-Toulson and Smith Toulson (State College, PA)
- Joanna Cowan White and Kennen White (Mt. Pleasant, MI)
