Arriving in Houston by Air
Cab fares are regulated by the City of Houston. Zone charts are posted in all cabs. Shuttle services ground transport to/from the airports are available in the baggage-claim area of each airport. Call Airport Express, 713-523-8888 for more information. Nearest shuttle stop: Holiday Inn & Suites Hotel, 6800 Main (about 1 mile south of the campus, walkable if you don’t have too many heavy bags. If so, take a cab, $4.) The Rice area is also known as the Medical Center area; Rice is directly across Main St. from the Texas Medical Center. If arriving by taxi, tell the driver to take Entrance 12 off Rice Blvd. Arriving in Houston by Car Approach via Highway 59 either direction Take the Shepherd-Greenbriar exit, turning south under the freeway on Greenbriar. Continue for 1 mile to Rice Boulevard and turn left. Take Entrance 12 on the right. You’ll see Alice Pratt Brown Hall on the left, beyond an open field. The stadium and stadium parking lot are on the right. Enter the building at the main entrance facing the stadium and proceed straight through the building to the opposite wall, where you will see a glass door on the left marked John H. Wright Administrative Suite. Enter and follow the stairs to our reception area. This is due in no small part to the fact that the conference is being heavily attended by non-participants, that is, people and students are driving/flying/busing in from as far way as Georgia to attend the conference and its concerts. We never planned for this contingency, indeed, Gerald Warfield says its not happened this way before. I have spent much time on the phone with the hard-working and concerned Gail Melancon at the Four Points Sheraton, who has been extending the room block until it cannot be extended further.
