Rice EMS CPR Information

Classes:

HEALTHCARE PROVIDER - This class is primarily aimed at doctors, nurses, EMTs, firefighters, etc., who have a high probability of doing CPR and of having equipment available to aid them. Specifically, this class covers adult, child, and infant rescue breathing, CPR, and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). This class also covers the use of barrier devices and bag valve masks. Additionally, students will learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This class provides a two year credential that will fill any CPR requirement for a job and is the only one accepted in many healthcare fields, including EMS. This class is takes about 7 hours.

HEARTSAVER AED - This class is designed for lay rescuers and can be taught two different ways.

  1. The first is adult rescue breathing, CPR, and FBAO as well as use of an AED and common barrier devices. This classtakes about 3-4 hours.
  2. An optional addition to the class teaches infant and child rescue breathing, CPR, and relief of FBAO. Adding this portion makes the class approximately 6 hours.

Either one of these options provides the student with a two year credential that will fill almost any job requirement (excepting some in the medical profession).

HEARTSAVER CPR (Children and Infants) - This class teaches rescue breathing, CPR, and relief of FBAO for infants and children. The class lasts about 3.5 hours and students will receive a two year credential that will satisfy a job requirement.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY - This is the shortest class and comes in three versions:

  1. The first is adult rescue breathing, CPR, and relief of FBAO. This portion takes about 2 hours.
  2. The second is child and infant rescue breathing, CPR, and relief of FBAO. This portion takes about 2.5 hours.
  3. Parts one and two can be combined into one class and takes about 4 hours.

Students who take this class will receive a participation card but not a credential. This class will not fulfill a CPR requirement for a job and is taught only by request.
