To allow for full participation in Owl Weekend, we strongly recommend the following flight arrival times:

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm CST on Sunday

Rice students will meet you at the baggage claim area of either Hobby airport or the Terminal C Baggage Claim of Bush Intercontinental Airport, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday. If you land at Terminal A, B, D, or E of Bush Intercontinental Airport, please take the airport train to the Terminal C Baggage Claim. Our volunteers will only be set up in the baggage claim of Terminal C.

At both airports students will direct you to shuttles that will bring you to Rice. You will be charged a roundtrip $25 shuttle fee (or $15 one way) per person, payable at registration. The last shuttle will leave the airport at 5:00 pm. After this time, you will be responsible for getting yourself to the campus. Please refer to http://explore.rice.edu/explore/Houston1.asp for information about Houston and transportation options or visit our FAQ’s.

Departure

Shuttle buses will be available to take you directly to Hobby or to Intercontinental airports. This cost is covered in the shuttle fee paid at registration. We recommend scheduling a flight that departs on Tuesday between:

9:00 am - noon CST

Do not plan to take a flight before 9:00 am unless you have arranged for your own transportation to the airport. The first shuttle will arrive at the airport no earlier than 8:00 am.

If You Are Driving

Plan to arrive on campus between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Sunday.  To get to Rice University, exit US Route 59 at Greenbriar (watch for the signs). Greenbriar is a one way street, heading south. From Greenbriar, make a left turn on to Rice Boulevard. Bear right when Rice Boulevard merges with Sunset Boulevard. At the traffic light, turn right onto Main Street. Take an immediate right into the first campus entrance. Registration will take place at Lovett Hall, the building directly in front of you as you enter the campus.

Accommodations

You will be staying in a current student’s dorm room (camping out on the floor)!  Plan to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, alarm clock, towel, and toiletries.  Dress at Rice is very informal - bring cool, comfortable clothes. Since weather in Houston can be rather unpredictable, it is a good idea to bring an umbrella. All meals on campus will be covered in the $45 registration fee; however, you should bring extra money for transportation, incidental expenses, and optional outings.
