  2. How do I get help with my computer?
    • There are three ways of contacting the Help Desk:
      1. E-mail us at jgshelp@.
      2. Call us at x8319 (713-348-3819).
      3. Visit us in room 257, McNair Hall.
      The help desk staff will be happy to help you. Alternatively, you may obtain 24/7 telephone support from HP by calling 1-800-HP-INVENT. Please note: if HP support asks you to use the HP restore CDs, please do NOT follow their instrutions. Please visit the help desk instead.
  3. What is the warranty on my laptop?
    • Your laptop is covered by a 3-year parts and labor warranty from Compaq. Please refer to the CarePaq warranty package and the warranty support for portables documents enclosed with your computer for more information on the range of service options Compaq provides.
  4. How do I get warranty service or purchase additional equipment?
  5. What is Westerman and Associates?
    • Westerman and Associates is an authorized Compaq reseller and service center. It is not Compaq Corporation. Westerman and Associates gives their best possible service to Jones School students within the limitations of Compaq's warranty program.
  6. Where are the network printers located?
    • The 2 network printers are located in Room 215 and 315.
  7. How much does printing cost?
    • The cost of printing is $0.05 per page on the black and white printers (second and third floor), and $.25 per page on the color printer (first floor). Keep in mind that printing black and white documents to the color printer will still charge you $.25 per page.
  8. How do I check my printing balance?
    • You can check your printing balance at any time that you are in the Jones School building and logged onto the network. On the system tray – lower right hand corner of your laptop, near the clock – you will find a black $ icon. Placing your cursor over the $ will show your balance. You are responsible for keeping up with your balance.
  9. How do I purchase printing credit?
    • You can purchase printing credit by bringing a check to the Help Desk in Room 257. Any member of the IT staff will take your check and increase your account balance accordingly. We currently accept Checks only.
  10. Can I print when my balance reaches zero?
    • No. Once your balance reaches zero, print job will automatically deleted.
  11. Do I need to wait until my balance reaches zero before I can add more printing credit to my account?
    • No. You do not need to wait for your balance to reach zero before adding to your account. If you think you will be doing a lot of printing over the weekend, add value to your account during the week.
  12. Can I log into Novell while I am not in the building?
    • No. You can log into the Jones School's Novell network only when you are in the Jones School Building.
  13. Do I need to log into Novell every time I start my laptop?
    • The primary use of the Novell network is for access to the laser printers. If you do not plan on using the network, you may choose to log into the workstation only by checking the box under the password box. You can log into the Novell network at any time by right clicking on the red N in the lower right hand corner of your screen and select Netware Login...
  14. How do I forward my Rice E-mail?
    • If you are on exchange, read this. If you are using the Rice RUF/Owlnet mail server, go to http://mail.rice.edu, click on the Forward Your Mail link. Enter your username and password when prompted. You will be taken to the WebForward page. Check the Forward mail to box, and enter the desired E-mail address in the space provided. Click the Submit button.
