Monterrey hosts the headquarters of many top Latin
American multinational corporations, such as CEMEX, Vitro, Alfa, Gruma, and FEMSA. These companies
along with the strong educational Monterrey Tec system have transformed
Monterrey to be on the cutting edge of education and international
business.
Our visit to Monterrey
included company visits to some of these companies. Our contacts
at EGADE were able to organize company trips and presentations to HEB
Mexico, CEMEX, and Nemak.
We were treated to a discussion with
Jorge Guajardo, a trader
at CEMEX, in which he offered us insight into CEMEX's challenge to
become the number one provider of cement globally.
Participants of the trip
also went to an actual manufacturing facility at the company
headquarters of Nemak, the leading supplier of aluminum engine blocks to
major automobile manufacturers in the world. Situated in the
valleys in near Saltillo, Mexico, we saw scrap aluminum transformed and
molded into engine blocks.
Our visit
also included a trip to HEB Mexico. Trip participants
learned about HEB's strategy to gradually penetrate the Mexican
supermarket space.
The presentations and
company trips were the most exciting part of our Monterrey experience.
Visiting these companies left most of our participants wanting to come
back.
