Rice University's Official Breakdance and Hip-Hop Club
Bringing positive Hip-Hop to Rice since 1996.

The Fresh Rice Breakers were started in 1996 to promote and practice Hip-Hop and
specifically Breakdance on the Rice campus. FRB holds regular dance practices on campus, were they teach and learn
breakdance. FRB also performs often around campus, holds
events, such as Hip-Hop Awareness Day, and
generally does what it can to make the world a better place for you
and for me. FRB
is an official Rice student
organization, and indisputably the freshest at that.

- About Breakdance and Hip-Hop:
Breakdance is the umbrella term for (about) three styles of American
street dance that first emerged in the 1970's. The most recognized of
the dances is "breaking" or "b-boying" (sometimes called Breakdance)
and includes the "power moves" that many people remember from the
1980's, such as headspins and windmills (AKA helicopters). The other two styles that
are associated with Breakdance are "popping" and
"locking".
Despite it's lack of visibilty since the mid 1980's, Breakdance
is alive and well today, with people all over the world representing at the highest levels.
B-boying and popping are together considered one of the four elements
of Hip-Hop, the other three being MCing (rapping), DJing, and Graffiti. FRB seeks to
promote all aspects of Hip-Hop in a positive way.
