April 1999 News:
Pager has returned from the dead, and is now available on ARC SGI
workstations, with some limitations.
Mixd2EnSight has been updated to generate EnSight 6.x Case files.
In place of the usual out.var
file, the new format uses a
simpler case file, by default named out.case
. In the data
reader dialog in EnSight, select Case file format instead of the
Ensight5, select the case file from the file list, and click Set Geometry
button. Selection of the variable file is no longer necessary or possible.
EnSight has been updated to version 6.2.1 on i0
, and the
license renewed until February 28, 2000.
August 1998 News:
After the IRIX 6.2 upgrade, the spaceball drivers became unstable, and
the spaceball support was disabled in sgi32
versions of Visual3,
pV3 and ModView. The ivie
, which is running IRIX 6.4, should
not be affected.
Visual3 and pV3 were merged into a single code base, so that some features
available previously in one of them are now available in both. Namely, Visual3
handles RNG detection in a robust way, while pV3 can now process axisymmetric
data sets. The cell-based visualization is still only possible in Visual3, however.
May 1998 News:
ModView reached a semi-useable state and is now available for use.
April 1998 News:
EnSight 6.1 has been installed on ivie
. The update supports
cell-centered variables (as soon as Mixd2EnSight is updated...), adds many
predefined functions that help in variable creation,
supports VRML, MPEG and JPEG output, and contains various other improvements.
January 1998 News:
EnSight 5 licenses have expired. EnSight 6 should be used on both
ivie
and i0
.
Bibtex databases on this page have been updated on January 8, 1998.
December 1997 News:
EnSight has been updated to version 6.0.3 on ivie
.
Among the new features is the support for stereo display in individual windows.
November 1997 News:
EnSight 6.0.2 has been installed on ivie
.
July 1997 News:
New version of pV3 (1.25) has been installed. This version
adds support for extension input devices, and the new pv3server
can now be controlled by the Spaceball and Magellan controllers
in a manner similar to Visual3.
June 1997 News:
The Magellan controllers are finally installed on
i0 and i2. They can now also be used to control
2D window view in Visual3, in addition to the usual 3D window control.
EnSight 6.0 has been announced and should be shipped before the end
of the summer. It should take better advantage of multiprocessing
capabilities of the ONYX server. It will include a Postscript output
option and a new GUI.
April 1997 News:
Bibtex databases on this page have been updated on April 9,
1997.
The Logitech Magellan 3D controllers are installed for now on
i4 and i6, while we wait for longer cables
needed to connect them to ONYX'es. The default version of Visual3
now supports these devices.
Visual3 library has been updated to version 2.30. The front
end now supports the axisymmetric keyword, which causes
generation of 3D prism or hexahedral mesh from 2D triangular or
quadrilateral mesh. Use resolution and sweep
parameters to control the behavior of this option.
January 1997 News:
A problem with EnSight crashing the i0 server has
been tracked down to its lack of support for main window sizes
larger than 1280x1024 pixels (the i0 display can
accommodate 1500x1200 windows). The problem should be
fixed in 6.0 release, and an interim solution of limiting the size
of the EnSight viewer has been deployed.
We have received two Logitech Magellan 3D controllers which
are supported by Visual3. These should be available soon on the
i0 and i2 machines.
November 1996 News:
EnSight has been updated to version 5.5.4. This version
extends the MPGS file format which leads to considerable savings
in storage space for cases involving changing geometry with fixed
connectivity. Mixd2EnSight has been updated to produce the MPGS
files using the new format.
Another new feature, present since version 5.5.1, is the
support for stereo goggles. The stereo view display is toggled
with F12 key. The F10 and F11 make
adjustments to the stereo projection.
