During my stay in Mali we toured a school outside of Sanankoroba, a village 45 minutes away from the capital city. The school was run by the SOS Village based outside Sanankoroba. SOS Children's Villages offer abandoned, orphaned and destitute children a new and permanent home, and prepare them for an independent life. The kindergarten within the village actually had more local students than orphaned students. There were a minimum of 35 children ranging in age from 3 to 5 sitting under a gazebo singing songs. When 12 large, white adults walked up, the children couldn't take their eyes off of us. We were probably the first whites many of them had ever seen.
