I love this picture for its color. It was taken in Bedami, a town located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. I am not exactly sure why this sheep is painted yellow and red, but my guess is that it was for a festival. I often saw cows and horses decorated similarly, sometimes with bells wrapped around their necks and on the tips of their horns. Standing next to the green lake, the boat with its deep blue interior, and the sandy brown rocks that characterize most of Bedami, I wondered who had left this one untethered, wandering alone.
