Bogdan Czaykowski (1932–2007) was a friend and coeditor of our journal. A survivor born in Poland and deported in 1940 by the Soviets to labor camps in the USSR, he came to London through Persia and India, then taught at the University of British Columbia. A gentle soul and a fine poet, he was a Polish patriot in the best sense of the word: living courageously while being kind to others.
