The Environmental Intern position lasted from September 1998 to September 2000 and was held by Ryan McMullan. The position is not currently active, but all of the information from its activities is listed here for historical purposes.

The environmental intern position grew out of the efforts of BAKE 302 (Understanding Environmental Systems, spring 1998) and members of the Environmental Programs Steering Committee. The university funded the first two years of its operation.

The projects were:

• Composting Pilot Project (with FAQ) -- a project to recycle organic material on-campus
• Rice Natural History Database -- the environmental intern helped establish this project to increase the awareness of Rice's Natural History
• Waste Reduction and Application Program (WRAP) -- a general program with the aim of making Rice's waste stream more sustainable
• Rice Environmental Idea Bank -- a way of accumulating ideas from the entire Rice community to improve our campus. Submit your ideas now!
• Jones is Green, Green is Jones -- an effort to make Jones a model college for environmental initiatives
