The mystic and the pulpit II

A traveler on the Road

was asked if he would speak

about the Mysteries.

He said: "you ask me now,

but if I answer you,

you will be led astray,

and I will lose my faith.

"Oh you who led Hallaj,

Bistami and Junayd

to utter blasphemy.

"You want to hear the Truth,

but Truth cannot be heard.

"You want to see the Light

without being consumed.

"You only want my words

to aid your self-deceit,

and care not for my fate.

"You corrupt every guide

by tempting him to guide:

You tempt him to reveal

what has not been revealed.

"Only the Words of God

describe the Mysteries:

They Are The Mystery,

the Sea without an End.

"There is no exegesis,

I am no exegete".
