THE SUMMIT

In 1975 the Summit, later named the Compaq Center, became home of the Houston Rockets and was a great venue for concerts until the City sold it in 2005 and it became the Godautorium. After the loss of the Summit, Houston lost it's last big hall suitable for concerts. Now we are stuck with Cynthia Woods Pavilion and the Toyota Center. The Summit had a rated seating capacity of 17,000 which I'm sure did not include floor seating for concerts. The acoustics were actually pretty good, far better then the old Coliseum. Many great acts performed there during it's 30 years of use as a concert venue.
