One of the central goals of the Statistical Consulting Lab is to promote the interaction of statistical users in the Rice Community. Each seminar will focus on the computation and methodological issues of a statistical topic. The lunch seminars will be held in Duncan Hall 3092 from noon to 1 pm and will include a 30 minute presentation and subsequent discussion.
All faculty with an interest in the statistical topic are invited. Additionally, each department with an interest may send one graduate student representative. Please r.s.v.p to statlab@rice.edu two days prior to each meeting. A tentative schedule follows:
September 25: Overview of the Statistical Consulting Lab and its Web Page
October 9: Statistical Software Packages on Vet and Communication between the packages and programs like Excel and MatLab
October 23: Categorical Modeling
November 6: Spatial Modeling
November 20: Relational Databases in Microsoft Access
December 11: Time Series
The SCL also invites the Rice research community to attend the Houston Area Chapter of the American Statistical Association social hour the second Tuesday of every month. These meetings are followed by a dinner and lecture.
