Class Rings

Class rings may be ordered at the Campus Store. Representatives of the company which manufactures the rings come to the campus store in early April. Rings may be ordered any time after April of the year prior to a student's graduation (even years later), subject to the following conditions.

Undergraduate Students: Undergraduates may order a class ring as above, but may not receive it until the Registrar recognizes that they have completed 90 semester hours. The ring may bear the date of the calendar year in which they complete their degree requirements, in which they receive their degree, or four years after matriculation.

Graduate Students: Graduate Students may order a class ring only after completing all requirements for their degree programs. Jones School graduates may order senior rings but must wait until graduation to pick them up.

Rice University Class Ring Agreement

It is agreed that the honor and privilege of wearing the Rice University class ring is conditional upon graduating from the University with the class indicated upon the ring or within a reasonable time thereafter. The University reserves the sole right to determine what will be considered a reasonable time to have graduated after the date on the ring.

It is agreed that the University will permit the student to purchase a Rice class ring for his/her personal use when the student has met the current eligibility requirements established by the University's Permanent Ring Committee. It is further agreed that the undergraduate student's ring order will not be processed until the Registrar's Office certifies that the student has completed the current eligibility requirements of 90 credit hours. Graduate students will not be allowed to order rings until after they have completed all requirements.

It is agreed that the student purchases and wears the class ring prior to graduation based on a trust advanced in the spirit of the Honor System.

The student agrees to return the class ring when and if it becomes evident to the student, or the Registrar indicates, that the student will not complete the degree requirements. It is further agreed that the student will return the ring to the University when the student, after his/her graduation date, is not enrolled or registered at Rice University. A full refund less the deposit amount ($25.00) will be given for the returned ring provided the ring is returned to the Rice Campus Store within three years from the date of shipping.

The student understands that the University reserves the right to lock the transcripts of the student if this agreement is violated. (Locking a student's transcript means that it will not be available for the student's use. When locked a student's transcript can not be sent to other schools or institutions.)

NOTE: These rules are regulated by the Office of the Dean of Undergraduates. For more information or questions about special cases, contact Philippa Angelides, pangel@rice.edu. The rules went into effect in the 1975-1976 school year but are not retroactive.
