2007 CLASS COUNCIL strives to promote class unity for our time here as undergrads and later as alums.

ADVANCE (Advocating DiVersity And the Need for Cultural Exchange) is a dynamic program that provides students with opportunities to learn necessary skills for leadership and career success, to explore and debate cultural issues, and to engage the greater campus in dialogues of community and/or social relevance.

AEGEAN CLUB is the Greek interest club of Rice University. Its scope is to bring together students, faculty, and community members who are interested in Greek culture.

AIKIDO CLUB is dedicated to providing a safe and fun environment for the instruction of Aikido, a Japanese martial art which eteaches the resolution of physical conflict through redistribution of energy, without causing harm to your opponent or yourself. People of all ages and proficiency levels welcome.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PETROLEUM GEOLOGISTS (AAPG) is intended to provide resources and educational opportunities that are focused on the petroleum industry to graduate and undergraduate geoscience students.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION (ACLU)'s mission is to promote civil liberties education, discussion, and activism.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS (AIChE) is the link between chemical engineering at Rice and the "real world." This is the student chapter of the national AIChE organization.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS (ASCE) promotes civil engineering as a course of study and ultimately a profession to the students of Rice University. We sponsor club meetings with possible employers and concerning other topics relevant to the civil engineering discipline. We also perform various community service projects and social events, such as Habitat for Humanity and our civil and environmental engineering softball team.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS (ASME) works with employers to bring professional mechanical engineers to Rice to speak to undergraduates. ASME also organizes study breaks, trips, and activities for mechanical engineers at Rice.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF METALS AND MATERIALS (ASM/TMS) works to help students explore the many aspects of material science.

AMERICANS FOR INFORMED DEMOCRACY (AID) is a non-partisan student organization on more than 175 university campuses that promotes global understanding by coordinating town hall meetings on America's role in the world and by publishing opinion pieces and reports on issues of global importance.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL uses letter-writing and direct action to confront human rights violations on behalf of prisoners of conscience, victims of torture, refugees, and all other persecuted people. We also work to educate and engage our community in human rights issues.

APOSTOLOS CAMPUS MINISTRY is dedicated to the ideal of creating a global Christian college-age ministry with the purpose of sharing the Gospel. Our aim is to carry out the Words of the Lord, carrying on the dreams of the first disciples.

ARCHI ARTS organizes the Archi Arts costume party, held off campus in early spring every year, each time with a different theme. Second-year undergraduate architecture students help plan and stage this event. Last year, Archi Arts was named "Best Party of the Year" by the Thresher.

ARCHITECTURE SOCIETY @ RICE is the student organization of the Rice School of Architecture. The main goal of the ASR is to foster interaction and collaboration within the school by improving communication. The ASR focuses on developing solutions instead of just identifying issues.

ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICANS FOR SOCIAL ACTION (APASA) strives to promote unity in our community by educating and raising consciousness of the unique and diverse historical, cultural, and sociopolitical experiences of Asian Americans. By recognizing the shared experiences of minorities, APASA seeks to build coalitions emphasizing solidarity among all communities of color and the community at large. APASA is dedicated to empowering our community through service and development of student leaders and networks and combating racial prejudice and discrimnination against Asian Americans.

RICE ASSOCIATION OF BIOLOGICALLY INCLINED STUDENTS (RABIES) is for anyone who is taking biosciences classes, interested in a biosciences major, or just curious about biological topics. We offer regular speakers (including graduate school recruiters), professor-student luncheons, help finding internships and research positions, and our "own" course evaluations.

BADMINTON CLUB has an active group (consisting of amateur and advanced players) that meets at least twice a week. Rice provides excellent facilities for badminton lovers.

BAPTIST STUDENT MINISTRIES (BSM) is a ministry for students that is designed to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the Rice community and facilitate and enrich the spiritual growth of believers through prayer, service, fellowship, and small Bible study groups.

BASEBALL, CLUB is a student-run baseball club that competes against teams from across Texas.

BEST BUDDIES is an international organization that works to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. The purpose is to facilitate friendships between students and persons with intellectual disabilities from the Center for the Retarded (CRI) through one-to-one matches and group outings.

BIOCHEMISTRY - UNDERGRADUATE BIOCHEMISTRY JOURNAL CLUB presents impactful scientific articles from biological field, encourage students to discuss and learn from scientific literature.

BIOENGINEERING GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION's primary goals are to promote professional and personal relationships among graduate students and faculty, to serve as the official organ for voicing the concerns of the graduate students, and to contribute to the professional growth of graduate students.

BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING SOCIETY (BMES) serves to promote the increase of biomedical knowledge and its utilization. Additionally, this society shall introduce students to the profession of biomedical engineering and the roles and obligations of the professional biomediacl engineer and provide an environment for social interaction and exchange of ideas between all levels of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty. The BMES chapter at Rice is dedicated to unifying the broad interests of bioengineers, to channel their energies into looking to the future of biomedical engineering.

BLACK GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (BGSA) aims to support students of African descent in their matriculation of the academic programs and social environments within the Rice University campus. It is our goal to keep informed all interested students on local and national events impacting African and African-American communities that request the involvement and leadership of Rice University graduate students.

BLACK STUDENT ASSOCIATION (BSA)'s purpose is to provide a support network for the Black community on the Rice University campus and to provide cultural enrichment for the campus and the community at large.

CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST is an interdenominational organization aimed at turning lost college students into Christ-centered laborers. We seek to show people how to know and experience God's love and plan for their lives. Come fellowship, worship, and grow with us.

CANTERBURY is the Episcopal Church's ministry to the Rice campus and the schools of the Texas Medical Center. We meet every week for worship and fellowship.

CARIBBEAN STUDENTS SOCIETY aims to bring together both Caribbean students and those students interested in the Caribbean together in order to share with the Rice community the various rich cultures of the Caribbean represented on campus.Our friendly group is open to anyone in the Rice community.

CATHOLIC STUDENT ASSOCIATION allows expression of the individual's belief in God, provides a time and a place to learn about the Catholic faith, and promotes community fellowship.

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CENG GSA) is dedicated to bettering the lives of the graduate students in the Chemical Engineering department.

CHEMISTRY GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CGSA) seeks to give chemistry graduate students a better experience during their stay at Rice by hosting seminars and recreational activities, and by making sure the department hears any concerns about the graduate program that the students have.

CHEMISTRY - PHI LAMBDA UPSILON CHEMISTRY HONORS SOCIETY is an honorary chemical society that aims to promote high scholarship and orignial investigation in all branches of pure and applied chemistry.

CHESS CLUB is interested in promoting the play of chess across the Rice campus. The group is very informal, with people simply gathering together to play some chess and have some fun. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced and beyond, and we encourage anyone and everyone to come out.

CHINESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CSA) hosts exciting events and activities to promote friendship and increase cultural, political, and social awareness among Asian-American students throughout the university and community.

CHINESE STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS CLUB (RCSSC) enjoys a history of more than ten years. Representing students and scholars from the People's Republic of China, it's always an organization that serves Chinese students, brings Chinese people at Rice together, establishes a tie with the homeland, and promotes colorful Chinese culture to the whole Rice community

CHRISTIANS ON CAMPUS holds the faith that is common to all believers. Through daily prayer, Bible reading, and Christian fellowship we are growing "in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and unto the day of eternity. Amen." (2 Pet. 3:18).

CIC SERVICE COUNCIL is a body of representatvies from RSVP, Habitat for Humanity, Amnesty International, and other registered student service organizations. Our goal is to share information about and provide student support to large-scale service projects sponsored by the Rice community.

CIVIC SCIENTISTS, comprised of both S/Es and academs, seeks to promote and facilitate discussion and understanding of science on campus.

CIVIL ENGINEERING - CHI EPSILON is the nationally-recognized Civil Engineering Honor Society.

COLLEGE ASSISTANCE PEER PROGRAM (CAPP) is a network of trained peer advocates who work to address the mental health needs of the student body in coordination with the College Masters, Residential Associates, and the Rice Counseling Center.

COLLEGES AGAINST CANCER is a group to raise awareness about cancer issues on campus and help raise funds for research and cacner services. The four main areas of CAC are Relay for Life, Cancer Education, Advocacy, and Survivorship.

CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP is the college fellowship associated with Houston Chinese Church. Our goal is to glorify God in all things through service, fellowship, and hardcore study of the Word in a loving body of fellow believers. Check us out!

CRESCENDO is a club for members of the Rice and Houston community who are interested in performing in an ensemble. The club helps members form ensembles and organize performances. Members are responsible for finding music and practice times.

CREW CLUB (ROWING) supports and promotes the sport of rowing at Rice. The club also sponsors teams to compete in regattas against other schools and private clubs in and out of state.

CRICKET CLUB gathers every week to play, talk about, and enjoy a game of cricket. We are always looking to increase awareness of the game and welcome anyone and everyone to come and learn more about cricket.

CSTERS - WOMEN IN COMPUTER SCIENCE's mission is to encourage women in computer science by facilitating communication between female Computer Science majors. We provide a support group within the Rice community that includes both professors and female Rice students.

DANCE - RICE DANCE THEATRE (RDT) is a student organization that promotes modern dance. Auditions are usually held at the start of each semester for dancers to perform in a concert held near the end of that semester. Students are involved in all aspects of the concert, including stage managing, sound managing, box office, program design, and advertising, in addition to choreographing for and dancing in the performances.

DANCE - RICE OWL DANCE TEAM performs at the home football and basketball games in order to foster school spirit, pride, unity, and support for Rice athletics.

DANCE - RICE SALSEROS is dedicated to teaching, learning, and spreading salsa in the Rice community. We serve as the link to the Rice community and the Houston Salsa community. We provide instruction of salsa, cha cha, bachata, merengue, and are currently holding classes in conjunction with the Rice Social Dance Society.

DANCE - RICE SOCIAL DANCE SOCIETY (RSDS)'s purpose is to provide educational and social opportunities for members of the Rice community to partner dance socially. We hold weekly lessons in ballroom, salsa, swing, and more.

DEMOCRATS - RICE YOUNG DEMOCRATS provides a forum for politically interested and progressive students to become active in the community in which they live.

DUNCAN HALL FRIDGE ROOM is a co-op that exists to provide inexpensive beverages and snack food to the residents of Duncan Hall.

ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION (EEB-GSA)'s purpose is to foster communication and interaction among the graduate students in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at Rice University.

EDUCATION CLUB strives to provide a forum for the discussion of education-related issues, inform the Rice community of Rice's education programs, and provide support for students in education.

EGYPTIAN QUEENS are a community service organization that focuses on activities targeting the underprivileged youth in the Houston area. We are also dedicated to searching for opportunities to better ourselves, this university, and the Houston community as a whole.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING - ETA KAPPA NU is the Electrical Engineering Honor Society at Rice.

ELEVATION: HOUSTON are a group of people passionate about following Jesus' call to share our lives with others and minister to people without regard to race, creed, or any other position in life. We desire to live out the type of community outlined in the book of Acts and create an environment free of judgment so that people might come to receive and give freely. In short, our goal is to love God and love people, something that many talk about but few actually accomplish.

ENGINEERING SOCIETIES COUNCIL (RESC) is a committee of Rice engineering club presidents that organizes and develops activities for the Rice engineering population.

ENGINEERING - TAU BETA PI HONOR SOCIETY is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering professon. It is the nation's second oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to recognize students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. The Texas Gamma Chapter inducts the top percentages of students in engineering majors on a yearly basis.

ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS is a service organization dedicated to the completion of international engineering projects that address basic needs in the developing world.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) TUTORING is a student volunteer organization in which students tutor Rice employees or international students in English a minimum of one hour a week.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB focuses on a wide variety of energy and environmental concerns, including local, national, and global issues, improving the sustainability of the Rice campus, implementing and improving the environmental curriculum at the university, and organizing/sponsoring the annual Rice Environmental Conference.

EQUESTRIAN CLUB is active in intercollegiate horse shows in both english and western divisions. We are open to riders of all levels.

ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM SOCIETY watches, discusses, and repeats.

FAST WARP is an association of people who enjoy science fiction, gaming, roleplaying, and fantasy-related activities. We participate in various related activities, including RenFest, gaming, literary and cinematic activities, and holding an annual gaming convention: OwlCon.

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES (FCA) 's vision is to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches. Come worship and fellowship with us!

FIELD HOCKEY, CLUB welcomes male and female players of all abilities to continue to build their skills on our team. We compete against other club teams in surrounding cities and states and have a lot of fun doing it!

FOOTBALL, WOMEN'S encourages everyone to come out and cheer for games every weekend during the fall semester. Check with the captains and coaches at your college to join.

FRENCH - CHOUETTE, CLUB's purpose is to support, understand, and celebrate the French culture at Rice. Club Chouette offers many opportunities for all members of the Rice community to enjoy cultural and social activities.

FRENCH - PI DELTA PHI HONOR SOCIETY's purpose is to 1) recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literatures, 2) increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and 3) stimulate and encourage French and francophone cultural activities.

fresh is a group devoted to singing R&B/pop music with an emphasis on vocal harmony and showcasing individual talent.

FRESH RICE BREAKERS is Rice's official club for breakdancing and hip-hop, bringing positive Hip-Hop to Rice since 1996. All b-boys and b-girls are welcome. No experience is necessary.

GATHER (GLBTQAs ADVANCING TOWARD A HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT AT RICE), the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender resource center, houses a collection of print and film resources intended to encourage education and advocacy of GLBT issues at Rice and in the greater community.

Volunteering with GIRL SCOUTS is a service organization dedicated to volunteering with girl scouts in underprivileged areas.

Rice GO CLUB is interested in playing, teaching, and promoting the game of Go (Wei Qi, Baduk). All skill levels are welcome.

GOLF CLUB is a social club committed to improving social ties among Rice students both current and former while enjoying and practicing the game of golf.

GRADUATE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP is a community of graduate students that provides a place for Christian fellowship and an opportunity to grow spiritually through prayer, Bible studies, worship, and service activities.

GRADUATE WOMEN IN BUSINESS (GWIB) is collectively committed to growth, evolution, and innovation. We work together to reinvent the Rice MBA program as well as concurrently work together to reinvent each individual MBA candidate.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is a non-profit student organization which works to provide housing for hard-working citizens who cannot afford it by other means.

HEALTH REPRESENTATIVES are on hand at each college to answer basic health and wellness-related questions, specifically focusing on sexual health, healthy eating, and self-care. Health Reps act as a link between the Wellness Center and its associated programming throughout the semester. In addition, Health Reps have access to basic first aid supplies.

HERITAGE ORGANIZATION OF LATIN AMERICA (H.O.L.A.) is for ANYONE and EVERYONE from the slightly interested to the most passionate learners of what encompasses the diversity and rich culture Latin America has to offer. Join us for laid-back, informative sessions.

HILLEL is an organization for students who are looking for a connection to their Judaism. Hillel covers all aspects of Jewish life...religious, social, and political. We encourage the members of the Rice Jewish community to interact together and keep in touch with the Jewish population of the world.

HISPANIC ASSOCIATION FOR CULTURAL ENRICHMENT AT RICE (HACER) was established in 1972. HACER's purpose is to support, understand, and celebrate the Hispanic culture at Rice. HACER offers many opportunities for ALL members of the Rice community to enjoy, such as cultural, educational, political, service, outreach, and social activities.

HISPANIC BUSINESS STUDENT ASSOCIATION provides students professional guidance related to Hispanic/Latino issues.

HONG KONG STUDENT ASSOCIATION (HKSA) is dedicated to providing a support network for Hong Kong students at Rice, promoting awareness of the Hong Kong culture, and establishing a link among alumni and current students at Rice.

*HONOR COUNCIL is a group of undergraduate and graduate students elected to promote the Rice Honor System and handle accusations of violations.

HUMANITARIAN MEDICAL OUTREACH (HMO) works to improve the state of healthcare in the world and to increase awareness of global health issues right here on campus.

IAESTE Rice promotes cultural understanding through the exchange of students in work-based technical opportunities. It provides the opportunity for Rice students to live and work abroad and assists with international students coming to the local community to work on IAESTE internships.

IDEAS TO ACTION: ENTREPRENEURSHIP CLUB is open to all Rice students, alumni, and professors, as well as select entrepreneurs in the Houston area. ITA holds a series of forums at the Jones School of Management and provides an informal setting to discuss ideas and issues, make valuable connections, and learn from experts.

IMPACT MOVEMENT is an interdenominational Christian organization seeking to provide a spiritual environment for students to grow in their relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ. We are committed to the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

INDIAN STUDENTS AT RICE (ISAR) is an organization for bringing the Indian students together to have a fun-filled and exciting stay at Rice.

INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS (IEEE) is a student organization dedicated to encouraging interest in the Electrical and Computer Engineering major, informing ECE students of what is going on in the department, preparing the undergrad ECE majors for life "beyond the hedges," and creating a greater sense of community among the ECE students.

INTERFAITH DIALOGUE ASSOCIATION formed with the goal of promoting dialogue, tolerance, and understanding among students of diverse faith. We try to provide opportunities to bring people with various belief backgrounds together to engage in dialogue and form new friendships.
INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT CLUB's mission is to educate the Jones School community of the diverse international business practices and their respective cultural norms. The second IMC objective is to further career prospects for international management students. IMC’s third objective is to increase awareness of work opportunities in foreign countries.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION (ISA) is the representative organization for all international students at Rice University. ISA aims its goals to provide a friendly environment for all internationals by responding to their needs in an organizationed way and to be a representational voice in any kind of event internationals need to be involved.

INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE SOCIETY aims to unite international undergraduate students at Rice and bring them together along with students from the United States to create a support and social network across campus, while also promoting issues and acting as the voice of the general undergraduate population at Rice.

INTERVARSITY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP (IVCF) are a community of students seeking to follow the example and commands of Jesus Christ and grow in knowledge of and love for him through Bible Study, prayer, and application.

JAPANESE ASSOCIATION OF STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS strives to bring together members of the Rice community who share an interest in the Japanese culture.

JO MAI ANIME is dedicated to spreading Japanese animation and culture to Rice University and the Houston community.

JONES SCHOOL ASIAN BUSINESS STUDENT ASSOCIATION serves as a forum for students with an interest in Asia to develop professional relationships and discuss emerging Asian business trends.

JONES SCHOOL BLACK BUSINESS STUDENT ASSOCIATION's purpose is to provide professional guidance and support for Black Jones School students. We will accomplish our goals through professional development, academic excellence, and social outreach efforts.

JONES SCHOOL BIOTECHNOLOGY AND HEALTHCARE CLUB provides students with information and skills necessary for a successful internship and/or career in a Life Science Industry.

JONES SCHOOL CONSULTING CLUB serves as a forum for graduate and undergraduate students to learn about consulting careers.

JONES SCHOOL ENERGY CLUB was founded to give interested students a forum to learn more about the energy industry and to facilitate interaction between students, faculty, alumni, and industry leaders.

JONES SCHOOL ENTREPRENEURSHIP CLUB is a collection of MBA students interested in entrepreneurship.

JONES SCHOOL FINANCE CLUB is a student-managed formal organization created to supplement the MBA experience as it relates to finance. The club strives to support the objectives of our members through leadership, mentorship, and resources, while providing a bridge between MBA students and prospective employers.

JONES SCHOOL GOOD WORKS ASSOCIATION encourages business students to give back to their community by organizing and sponsoring fundraising activities.

JONES SCHOOL MARKETING CLUB's goals are to provide studetns the opportunity to network with one another and business leaders, educate the students about the concepts and aspects of marketing, and increase the visibility of our students about the business community.

JONES SCHOOL NEWSPAPER (THE HOOTER) is a forum for Jones School graduate studetns and faculty. Off-beat and edgy, the newspaper gives students an opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns, and fun-loving digs on their classmates and professors. All opinions anad statements are welcome.

JONES SCHOOL NET IMPACT is a network of more than 12,000 new-generation leaders committed to using the power of business to improve the world. It is also one of the most innovative and influential networks of MBAs, graduate students, and young professionals in existence today.

JONES SCHOOL REAL ESTATE CLUB is open to any member of the Rice community and seeks to provide a support network for students at Rice interested in Real Estate, to promote awareness of Real Estate issues and developments, and to establish a link between the real estate industry, alumni, MBA students, and other graduate students at Rice.

JONES SCHOOL SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CLUB is an organization that provides education and employment assistance to MBAs interested in thenon-traditional fields of entertainment, media, and sports.

JONES SCHOOL STUDENT ASSOCIATION promotes interaction among students, the academic community, the business community, and alumni while providing opportunities for students to develop leadership skills.

JONES SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY CLUB provides a medium for MBAs with a technology interest to network, learn, and find employment (in a technology industry or function), while providing technology leadership at the Jones School and Rice.

JUDO / JIU-JITSU CLUB was formed in September 2002. It offers students, faculty, and members of the community the chance to learn and practice judo and jiu-jitsu both as a sport and a means of self defense. The club has so far attracted a wide range of members ranging from beginners to top level martial artists. This year, Anderson Leal will be our instructor for both judo and jiu-jitsu. He is a black belt in judo and a member of the Brazilian National Team (silver medalist in the 2000 World University Judo Championship). He most recently earned his black belt in jiu-jitsu after placing first in the 2003 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

JUGGLING CLUB is a fun, free club that teaches and practices the art of juggling. All are welcome, and no experience or dexterity is required! Come see what juggling can do for you! Juggle On!!!

KARAOKE AND DDR (DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION) CLUB provides an opportunity for students to get together and play arcade-style Dance Dance Revolution for free at a convenient location.

KARATE CLUB promotes confidence, health, and discipline through the study of the Cha Yon Ryu martial art.

KOREAN GRADUATE STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (KGSA)'s aim is to promote a network for Korean students (including graduate, undergraduate, and postdocs) and to increase awareness about the Korean culture.

KOREAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION (KSA) provides events for students to meet to relax and have fun while celebrating the culture of Korea.

LACROSSE, MEN's is devoted to the development and progression of the game of lacrosse at Rice University.

LACROSSE, WOMEN's strives to promote competition, a healthy environment, team bonding, and exercise among its members on and off the field.

LATTER-DAY SAINT STUDENT ASSOCIATION (LDSSA) promotes Christian principles and the study of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and provides opportunities for service and fellowship among students.

LEGALEASE is an organization for pre-law students or for anyone who is considering law as a profession. We organize events geared toward those who are in the process of applying to law school and toward those who are still trying to make a decision.

LIBERTARIANS - COLLEGE LIBERTARIANS' purpose is to promote, through educational and political activity, the principles and candidates of the Libertarian Party.

LIGHT OPERA SOCIETY is dedicated to spreading the appreciation of Light Opera around the campus. We perform a show every spring.

LINGUISTICS SOCIETY is designed to encourage undergraduate involvement in the linguistics department and the field in general. We also publish working papers from the Rice community and organize and sponsor the UT-Rice Workshop in linguistics.

LINUX USERS GROUP holds regular meetings, provides a clearinghouse for Rice University peer Linux support, discusses Open Source issues, and fostering project collaboration.

RICE LOW KEYS is Rice's first and only all girls a cappella group.

#MARCHING OWL BAND (MOB) does almost everything BUT march, providing zany half-time while supporting various Rice sports teams.

MATH CLUB (EULERS) organizes a math tournament for high school studetns in the Texas/Louisiana area in the spring. All problems are original and written by Rice undergraduates. The tests are challenging and the contest is widely known in the state.

MELODIOUS VOICES OF PRAISE (MVP)'s purpose is to unify all interested Rice students in the common call to praise and worship Jesus Christ through song, promote and celebrate campus cultural diversity, and assist Rice in recruiting qualified students of color into the university's undergraduate and graduate programs through community.

MOCK TRIAL is dedicated to improving its members' critical thinking, speaking, and courtroom skills. The team works closely with the Houston legal community and also participates in regional and national competitions.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS seeks to provide an opportunity for students to increase their knowledge of international relations, improve their public speaking skills, and compete in national inter-collegiate conferences.

NATIONAL STUDENT SPEECH LANGUAGE HEARING ASSOCIATION (NSSLHA) is dedicated to promoting awareness of communication disorders and to disseminating professional information about careers in speech pathology and audiology. We volunteer in the community in speech and hearing clinics.

NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION is an organization that brings American Indian students and individuals from various backgrounds together for social and cultural activities and promotes awareness of American Indian issues on campus.

*NEWSPAPER - The RICE THRESHER is a student-run, weekly newspaper published for undergraduate students at Rice University. Students work as writers, editors, and photographers and manage advertising and business operations.

NROTC SEXTANT CLUB is an organization designed to train college students for a future as Navy or Marine Corps officers in the United States military.

ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING pairs Rice tutors with elementary school students for weekly tutoring and mentoring sessions at the Pilgrim and Cunningham elementary schools.

ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP is designed to facilitate the study of and participation in the Orthodox Christian Faith.

OUTDOORS CLUB is here to help you get off your ass! We do this by raising thousands of dollars to purchase brand new gear for you to borrow, access to listservs for various activities, and if requested, training sessions to acquaint you with or help you to improve in a new activity. The club presidents organize trips every semester that are open to the greater Rice community. We also encourage people to lead ROC-sponsored trips rather than just borrowing gear over breaks.

OWLCHEMY focuss on increasing excitement and enthusiasm for science at Rice and in the nearby communities. Our primary project is demonstrations at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

RICE PHILHARMONICS was formed in 1995. We are an active contemporary a cappella group that performs on campus and in the greater Houston area. We have released three CDs and competed at the 2003 International Championship for Collegiate A Cappella in North Carolina. We hold auditions for new members at the beginning of each school year.

RICE PRE-MEDICAL SOCIETY (RPMS) is an organization whose members consist of students who are interested in careers in the health professions -- predominately in medicine, with others in pharmacology, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. The principle goals of hte RPMS are to educate its members regarding the different facets of medical science, to provide opportunities for its members to experience what medicine is all about (through conferences and volunteer opportunities), and to better prepare its members for "real-world" problems, such as applying for financial aid and entrance examinations such as the MCAT, the VCAT, and the DAT.

PRIDE's purpose is to:
1. provide a healthy and safe place for Rice University students who are discovering their sexual orientation to find understanding and develop a network of support;
2. educate the Rice community on gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered issues, cultures, and history through various programming efforts;
3. provide a place for gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered, questioning, and straight students and others to meet, gain information, and socialize.

PROGRESSIVE/LIBERAL CHRISTIANS @ RICE is a small group of liberal Protestants who meet once a week to share ideas on Christian issues. We are sponsored by the Presbyterian Church (USA), Disciples of Christ, and the United Church of Christ, but are not exclusive to members of these denominations. Join us for relaxing and enlightening discussion.

QUIZBOWL competes in academic question-and-answer tournaments with other colleges and universities. We participate in NAQT, ACF, and CBI tournaments both here in Texas and across the country.

SAILING CLUB provides an opportunity for both beginners and experienced sailors to enjoy the sport throughout the year. We hold weekly practices at the Houston Yacht Club and compete in regattas across Texas and Louisiana.

SECULAR STUDENTS OF RICE is a campus organization that works for a greater awareness and acceptance of nonreligious lifestyles, the complete separation of church and state, and the application of reason and science to the greater good of humanity.

SELF-DEFENSE, PRACTICAL is dedicated to teaching students effective martial arts for the purpose of defending themselves against real-world situations such as muggings and rape attempts. The emphasis is on fitness, discipline, and having a good time while we're at it.

WHARTON AND RICE MENTORING (WARM) is designed to pair elementary school students (4th, 5th, and 6th) at Wharton Elementary with college students at Rice University. Through continued interaction between Rice and Wharton students, a strong mentor relationship can be established, through activities like arts and crafts, sports, museum trips, and various other activities both on and off campus.

WINE SOCIETY is dedicated to fostering wine education and responsible wine appreciation in a fun, relaxing, and non-snobbish environment at Rice, thereby facilitating closer ties between students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
