ALCOHOL SERVER RETRAINING CHECKLIST

DIRECTIONS: Prior to serving alcohol EACH ACADEMIC YEAR, all bartenders must be reminded of all of the information on this list by someone who is alcohol server trained (preferably a college social coordinator). In order to be covered under Rice insurance, volunteer bartenders must ALSO sign a Certificate of Volunteer Alcohol Service directly following retraining. Please cover the following points in your retraining:

1. No alcohol served to anyone UNDER 21.

2. Only TX driver's licenses, TX I.D. cards, or out-of-state driver's licenses with Rice campus police sticker will be accepted.
3. ID's must be checked at every point of service (even for students with wristbands).
4. DO NOT serve any habitual drunkards, intoxicated, or insane people. Recognize intoxicated characteristics and understand Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) levels. Do not allow intoxicated people to remain on the premises.
5. No alcohol should be taken from the premises and no new alcohol should be brought on the premises (unless the event is registered as a BYOB).
6. Last call for alcohol is no later than ten minutes prior to the end of the event as stated on the Alcoholic Beverage Policy Form. Last call should be earlier depending on the size of the crowd and the ability to serve those wanting a last drink. All alcohol should be consumed or thrown out fifteen minutes after the event.
7. Do not leave the event until replacement bartender arrives. Pass along any information regarding questionable status of partygoers to hosts and new bartenders.
8. Alcohol Servers must be 18 or older and may not work while under the influence and may not drink while serving.
9. Realize that the average person metabolizes approximately one drink per hour. Alcohol Servers should refuse service to anyone asking for many drinks in a short timespan-- they're either passing it on or drinking too fast!
10. Alcohol Servers are held responsible for violation of the Alcoholic Beverage Policy as well as Texas State Law. REMEMBER: You could be held liable for injuries and damages caused by someone whom you allow to become intoxicated.
11. Rice University recognizes that individuals acting responsibly as alcohol servers for student sponsored social functions are acting as representatives of their college/organization and as such are functioning under the auspices of Rice University.
12. In an emergency, call Campus Police x6000.
