About the Chapter

The University of Houston-Rice University SPE student chapter is the student arm of SPE International. As a student organization our mission is to provide each affiliate with opportunities for personal and professional development through the SPE student membership benefits; and also through organization of technical and social activities round the year. Each year, we organize several guest lectures and seminars delivered by distinguished members from academia and from the petroleum industry. We also organize muesum visits and field trips; components that are essential for all-round development of a petroleum engineer.

Student Committee

Each year, members of the University of Houston-Rice University student chapter nominate the club officers. Amongst the four SPE officers for the chapter; traditionally two officers have been students at University of Houston while two others at Rice University. Along with the officers, all student members play an active role in planning and execution of various events round the year. The student chapter's activities are supervised by a Faculty sponsor and a Section/student chapter liason.

Our chapter holds meetings once a month either at University of Houston or Rice University. The meetings are generally coupled with guest lectures or seminars organized by the chapter. Information regarding meeting schedule for Spring 2009 can be found on Meetings Schedule.
