The leaders of the ASC (American Solar Challenge) have compiled a movie composed of images from the 2001 Solar Challenge Rayce. Images showing not only the fun and excitement from such a race, but the innovation exeplified by the participants. We encourage everyone to enjoy this movie.
May 10, 2002:
New Generations Motors, in order to keep pace with rising manufacturing costs, has increased the price of the hub mounted solar vehicle motor. The cost has risen from $12,000 to $17,000. This helps to emphasize the vital role sponsors play in the construction of such an incredible vehicle. More updates to follow.
April 20, 2002:
After several discussions with British Petroleum, they have generously decided to sponsor our team at the Platinum level. Their ten-thousand dollar donation will help launch the procurement of key components needed to construct the frame and electrical system of the car. Indeed a good start for the summer. February 4, 2002:
After a hectic Friday afternoon, we are pleased to announce that the Rice University Solar Car Team has received another grant of funds for our project. This time, our beloved benefactor is none other than the wonderful Dr. Camacho, Vice President of Student Affairs for Rice University. He is extremely enthusiastic about our project and was generous enough to give us a grant for $1,000. This was the perfect end for a strenuous (but excellent) week of fundraising efforts. Overall, we raised $7,100 in a little less than five days. Congratulations are in order for all team members and thanks are in order for all our new sponsors.
January 30, 2002:
We are pleased to announce that the Rice University Solar Car Team has received a generous grant of $5,000 from the Office of the Dean of Engineering. In addition to that grant, we have also received a grant of $1,000 from the Student Association. This means we have raised $6,000 in less than one week. Congratulations to everyone on the Solar Car Team and let's keep this momentum going.
To keep with our goal of updating all our publications, we have updated and redesigned our Solar Car Team website. Please be patient, new sections will be going up in the next week or so. Don't mind the dust, we'll clean up after we're finished.
Our first redesigned publication is now available for download. It's in .pdf format so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it (you can get it here, for free). Expect more publications to become available in future weeks.
