Research Interests
Dr. Shelton's current research examines inter-group variations in the commitment to the "American Nationality." Other papers in progress include an analysis of the determinants and substansive content of black racial socialization, as well as an investigation into the sources of pride and shame in the black American experience.
Biography
Jason E. Shelton received his Doctorate in Sociology at the University of Miami (FL) in 2005. His dissertaion examined the links between beliefs about success and support for redistributive poicy. He currently has a paper concerning this topic under review.
Dr. Shelton is also committed to the excellence in the classroom. He has taught a variety of courses at a range of institutions from public community colleges to private liberal arts schools. He aims to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere where students from different racial/ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds can express their opinions on sensitive topics.
