National Service OpportunitiesSpecial Olympics: A international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with mental retardation. The Fresh Air Fund: Serves over 3,000 New York City, low-income children yearly by providing them with two weeks of summer camp in the country free of charge. Alaskan Radio Mission: KNOM is an award winning, educationally oriented public service radio station in Nome, Alaska. Owned by the Catholic Diocese of Northern Alaska, KNOM serves fifty small, isolated Eskimo and Indian villages in Western Alaska. Amate House: Amate House is the young adult volunteer program for the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Since 1984, well over 200 young adults have benefited from the challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve in Chicago's most under-resourced communities, while living together in a community of peers, and participating in a program of educational and faith formation. Boy Scouts of America: The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Break Away, The Alternative Breaks: To promote service on the local, regional, national and international levels through break orientated programs which immerse students in often vastly different cultures, heighten social awareness and advocate life-long social action.
