  • Directing and managing the programs and services of the Community Involvement Center;

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and directing, with the other Assistant Director, Urban Immersion, week-long service-intensive orientations to Houston's cultural and social issues, offered to incoming students during the summer. Planning and implementing year-long program to engage participants during their first year at Rice;
  • Providing advisement to the Alternative Spring Break program with the Director and the other Assistant Director. Coordinating fundraising policies for the groups and develop and implement a fundraising plan, to potentially include an annual signature fundraiser, for the ASB program;
  • Advising and supporting student service organizations assigned by the Director;
  • Coordinating and attending the CIC's International Service Project, including selecting the site, selecting and training the student Coordinators and participants, budgeting, and fundraising;
  • Supervising the administration of the West U. Rotary Scholarship for Community Service, Morty Rich Scholarship, Alan Grob Prize, and Rice Developing World Student's Scholarship;
  • Developing, implementing, and supervising theCIC Service Council to provide support and guidance to the service initiatives of the student service organzations and the residential colleges;
  • Developing web and print content for Center for Civic Engagement programs, including writing participant and program profiles and collecting and editing journal entries;
  • Overseeing the application process, selection committee, and allocation of funds for the Community Service Grant; and
  • Creating and implementing programs which support the mission of the Community Involvement Center, specifically ones which develop students' leadership skills and ones which recognize students' contributions and volunteer efforts.   • Expansing large-scale community involvement activities with campus organizations and other local colleges and universities;
  • Promoting programs and funding sources focused on international service;
  • Supporting the expansion, implementation, and follow-up for a service-focused pre-orientation program for incoming students;
  • Updating data and assisting with development of a system (electronic map) to display information for community partners on the MetroRail line;
  • Overseeing data collection and assessment process to track student involvement;
  • Assisting with the planning and implementation of campus-based workshops on community engagement topics for faculty; and
  • Developing and maintaining the community-based research and community service content of the CCE and CIC websites and dissemination of reflection materials when appropriate.
