Recitation Sections

Many students want the opportunity to ask questions about course material in a small group setting as well as review important concepts before exams. To provide this opportunity we have scheduled recitation sections each week where you can meet with a Teaching Assistant, Mary Portillo (mcport@rice.edu), to ask questions and review important ideas. These sections are non-mandatory, and we will expand or contract the number of sections as demand changes.

While many of you will want to attend such a session before exams, I urge you to attend such sessions each week if you feel the need for this kind of support. When essential ideas are unclear or confusing to you, you will have a better chance of gaining the clarity you need if you are able to raise questions as soon after they have been presented as possible. Furthermore, recitation sessions immediately before exams are likely to be more crowded giving you less of an opportunity to pursue the issues that concern you the most. The schedule of sections will be posted shortly. If want to attend a section but cannot because of a conflict, please let Mary know. It is unlikely that she can schedule sections to accommodate everyone's schedule, but she may be able to change meeting times if the times are not convenient for a large number of you. Mary can also schedule individual sessions when appropriate.
