UPCOMING EVENTS

 

The application deadline is 11:59PM on Friday, March 28th.

RSVP has five different committees, each of which addresses a specific social need. RSVP committee chair responsibilities include:

  • Oversee on-going projects and ensure that the goals of your committee are realized
  • Organize large one-time events and one awareness week (examples include Project Pumpkin and Hunger and Homelessness week, respectively)
  • Attend weekly Monday 9:00 pm RSVP general meetings and regular meetings with external vice chair
  • mandatory participation in the spring new committee chair retreat on 4/13/08 and the annual RSVP fall retreat TBA

The five committees are:

Children: Volunteers work with abused children at DePelchin Children's Center, organize carnivals for underprivileged children, and volunteer with Texas Children's Hospital. The current committee chair is Connie Foo (cgfoo@).

Education: Volunteers work with Star of Hope homeless shelter, Step Ahead, Crossroads Rice, and organize the annual Spring Fling. The current committee chairs are Dennis Shung (dls1@).

Environment: Volunteers maintain the Community Garden on-campus, organize beach clean-up days, and take trips to the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation. The current committee chair is Niki Von Hedemann (nvonh@).

Health: Volunteers work at Ben Taub Hospital and Bering Omega AIDS Hospice, organize campus-wide blood drives, and participate in fundraising activities like the Measles Initiative. The current committee chair is Lindsay Zwiener (lzwiener@).

Hunger and Homelessness: Volunteers organize clothing drives and the annual Hunger Banquet and 30 Hour Famine as well as serve food at the Star of Hope homeless shelter. The current committee chair is Kathy Zhang (kathy.t.zhang@).
