We're happy to hear you would like to work with RSVP!
With the diversity of service groups on the Rice campus it is sometimes unclear which group is most appropriate to work with each agency. Please use our guide below to help you figure out how RSVP can best serve you!
- My agency needs long-term, regular volunteers or volunteers for a one-time special event. How can RSVP help?
- My agency wants to speak at an RSVP meeting. Whom should I talk to?
- October: Children's Awareness Month
- November: Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month
- February: Education Awareness Month
- March: Health Awareness Month
- April: Environmental Awareness Month
- I want to know more about Outreach Days. Who can tell me how my agency can get involved?
- I have another question that was not answered above.
RSVP is always looking to engage Rice students in both long-term and one-time service opportunities. Volunteer opportunities are coordinated by a number of committee heads, each of which focuses on a different area of service. If your agency fits within one of RSVP's five areas of service (children, education, environment, health, and hunger & homelessness), please contact the chairs of that committee directly. Their contact information is located under the page labeled "Contact Us." If your agency does not fit under one of those areas, please submit your service opportunity at cic.rice.edu/agencies.
RSVP hosts awareness months, so meetings are usually under the direction of our committee chairs who may be interested in having a speaker from a related agency. The awareness month schedule for 2012-2013 is:
If your agency fits under one of RSVP's five areas of service (children, education, environment, health, and hunger & homelessness), should contact the chairs of that committee directly. Their contact information is located under the page labeled "Contact Us." If not, please email Pooja Yesantharao or Cathy Hu, the RSVP Co-Chairs, and there is limited availability for other types of agencies during the month of January.
RSVP Outreach Days are bi-annual events held in the fall and spring in which RSVP seeks to engage as many Rice students as possible in one-time service projects around Houston during a day of service. RSVP's 2012-2013 Outreach Days will be held on Saturday, November 10 and once in the Spring semester. (Additionally, other Outreach Days are sponsored by the Rice Community Involvement Center in August and by the Rice's Jones Graduate School of Business in November.) To learn more, please email Pooja Yesantharao or Cathy Hu.
By heightening student awareness, increasing community involvement, and raising social consciousness, we commit ourselves to understanding and meeting the needs of the community through direct, thoughtful action.
