RLUG Installfest HOWTO

Outline
Semester before
- Choose installfest coordinator
- Optionally, also a technical coordinator.
- Set date. Generally:
- End of September for Fall
- Beginning of February for Spring
- Reserve room
- Commonly, Duncan Hall 3092

- Decide on budget
- Make subsidy requests
1 Month before
- Begin deciding which distribution to install. Generally one of:
- vote by e-mail
- hand ballot
- Begin advertising
- Update RLUG installfest website
(http://linux.rice.edu/installfest/, at /var/www/installfest/)
2 weeks – 10 days before
- Finalize which distribution to install.
- More publicity
- Start putting up flyers in colleges, academic buildings

- Get people to sign up for showing up the day of installfest and
helping do installs
Week of
- Order Lunch (e.g. Subway)
- This can be done on day of, depending on what gets
ordered
- More flyers
- Get printed waivers
- Make signs directing people to installfest (from parking lot, from
inside building).
- Send email reminders to volunteers
Day before
- Arrange breakfast/snack foods
Day of
- Set up room (9am)
- Installation checklist.
- Clean up room (7pm)
Before next meeting
- Add installees to RLUG-announce
- Send them a reminder about next meeting
At next meeting
- Address installees' problems
- Take suggestions for changes
