Rice Linguistics Society
Call for Papers: RWPL volume 2
The Rice Linguistics Society (RLS) solicits submissions from all subfields of linguistics (with the exception of ESL/TESOL and related areas of applied linguistics) for publication in the Rice Working Papers in Linguistics. Students and postdocs are strongly encouraged to submit. We especially welcome submissions in line with our department's focus on functional, usage-based approaches to language study using empirical data, including but not limited to the following:
- cognitive/functional linguistics
- typology and language universals
- field studies in less commonly researched languages
- sociolinguistics, including sociophonetics
- phonetics and speech processing
- laboratory phonology
- forensic linguistics
- corpus linguistics
- discourse
- neurolinguistics
- psycholinguistics and language processing
- language change and grammaticalization
Papers submitted must meet the following minimum style requirements:
- recommended length 15-25 pages (normally 5000-8000 words); significantly longer or shorter papers will be considered on a case-by-base basis (contact the editorial board)
- single-spaced
- 1" margins (size 8.5x11" paper)
- font size 12, Times New Roman or Doulos SIL
- if another font is necessary for linguistic symbols, please contact the editors prior to submitting your paper
- The title should appear at the top of the first page, but in order to maintain anonymity in the review process, the author's name must not appear anywhere in the document.
- use footnotes, not endnotes
- use section headings
- tables and figures should be included inline in the text, not in separate documents
- a complete list of cited references must appear at the end of the paper; do not include any works in the reference list which are not cited in the paper
- Examples must be numbered, and if data from a language other than English is presented, it should be accompanied by interlinearized glosses and a free translation.
- submit an abstract (500 words), including 3-5 keywords, as a separate file
- submit two copies (in addition to your abstract):
- one copy in Word or LaTeX
- if you use Word, please send only .doc files, not .docx files
- if you use LaTeX, please contact rls@rice.edu before submitting your paper
- In addition to the Word or LaTeX submission, you must send a PDF version. This is so that we can see how it's supposed to look in case fonts are messed up, etc.
Due to the time required to review abstracts, there is a limit of two papers maximum per author. You may submit one single-author paper and one co-authored paper, but not multiple single-author papers.
RLS accepts only electronic submissions for the working papers. These must be sent to rls@rice.edu and the body of the e-mail should include:
- title of paper
- name of author(s)
- affiliation
- address
- phone number
- contact e-mail address
The deadline for receipt of submissions is September 1, 2009. Questions regarding the submissions process or style requirements may be addressed to the editorial board at rls@rice.edu.
