What are intramural sports?
Intramural participants may be composed of any combination of Rice University students, faculty, staff and their spouses. Submit the teams to the Intramural Sports Office during the listed entry periods by filling out the entry forms on-line.
What are college sports?
College teams are composed of a respective college's student members, and are formed by contacting the sports representatives at that college. Only faculty and staff advisors and/or associates may participate in that college's sports.
How do I get involved?
Intramural Sports not only provides sports and activities for your athletic enjoyment. We also offer character building employment as officials, supervisors, and other internal staff positions. Sports leaders are recognized by becoming sports representatives for their college. If you want to get involved as a participant or staff here are some helpful tips on ways to get information:
- Listen to dinner announcements - sign-ups for teams will be forming
- Review our calendar, write down the entry dates of the sports you want to play, and either make up a team with your friends, or join a team to make friends.
- Get associated with the sports representatives in your college and let them know about your Intramural Sports interest.
- Find in your college and the gym where flyers and announcements are posted.

- Make some extra money and build some valuable skills by being a sports official
What are the fees to participate?
Undergraduate students fees are prepaid with tuition. Graduate students and Rice student, faculty, or staff spouses must pay a one-time per year fee of $15.00. This must be paid be in the Intramural Office before your first game.
When are sport schedules posted?
Schedules are completed approximately one week after the entry deadline.
Play normally begins one week after schedules are publicized.
Self-scheduled sports still need to wait for the pools and play deadline determinations.
Sports are normally scheduled for teams to play once a week. You can obtain
your schedule online.
Do I need to sign any forms or get a medical examinations to participate?
All participants are required to complete a waiver of liability form each year. All participants in Intramural Sports activities assume the risk of injury. Rice University, its employees and agents shall not be liable for injury to person, loss or damage to personal property arising from or in any way resulting from participation in the Intramural Sports activities. We recommend that all participants get a physical examination from their doctor prior to playing in Intramural Sports activities.
