ROPE
Aquatics
Fitness
Students who are interested in physical activity and sport are good candidates for the many part-time jobs generated by the large variety of programs and services offered by the Recreation Center. Students may apply for any of the more than 10 positions, employing over 100 students each academic year in a variety of areas. Lifeguards and Aerobics instructors must have current certification; training is provided for other positions.
Students who work at least 4 hours per week in any of the positions below are able to take Group Fitness Classes for FREE!

Please note: We do hire year-round.
Aquatics Instructors |
Responsibilites
include: planning and teaching children and adults American Red Cross
swimming lessons. Certification requirements: American Red Cross Water
Safety Instructor. Training available prior to certification! |
Aquatics Lifeguards |
Must
have a knowledge and interest in swimming. Must be completely water
safety conscious at all times. Must have knowledge of the latest lifesaving
techniques and have the ability to perform quickly and competently.
Must have the following certifications: Lifeguard Training and First
Aid as well as CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Facilities Attendants |
These
individuals supervise the facility and the operations that transpire
within by roaming the facility constantly. Students will enforce the
policies and procedures of the department and control the access to
the entire facility. Facility Managers are required to become CPR
and First Aid Certified. |
Group Fitness Leaders |
This
person is responsible for leading group fitness classes in a safe
and proper manner. This requires knowledge of proper and improper
exercise techniques and practicing a healthy life-style, both inside
and outside the work place. |
Intramural Sports Officials |
No
experience necessary. You will be trained through the Intramural Sports
Office. Officials are responsible for sport officiating and game management. |
Intramural Sports Supervisors |
No
experience necessary. You will be trained through the Intramural Sports
Office. Supervisors are responsible for set-up, take down and management
of various intramural sports and officials. |
Intramural Sports Office Assistants |
Duties may include creating/modifying/updating
web pages and word processing documents; creating and printing lists
pertaining to intramural sports; assisting with ordering supplies
and equipment; and assembling training materials. Knowledge of web
browsers and web page design is desirable. |
Program Assistant |
Assists with the development
and implementation of a specific marketing plan with measurable results
for each of the Program areas, as well as for Operations. Schedules
and conducts research regarding the programs and services of the Recreation
Center. |
ROPE - |
Assist in the safety of the participants and staff
during events and planning. Attend necessary pre- and post-program meetings. Assist
the Lead Trip Leader during the planning stages of a trip or workshop. Review
relevant manual sections before the event and ensure safety guidelines are met.
Share learning goals and roles and responsibilities with the Lead Trip Leader.
Help the participants enjoy and learn from the experience. |
ROPE - |
Assist with the planning and safety aspects of trips and
workshops, which may include program files, route details, organizing transportation and
equipment, course wrap up and gear cleaning, and assisting trip leaders. The logistics
assistant may also assist with registration and contact. |
ROPE - |
Manage program implementation, participant outcomes, site safety and security, equipment
and staff. Keep current records of staff certifications, objectively assign the appropriate
trip leaders to trips, assist with trip planning, assist with trip leader responsibilities,
develop calendar, update Outdoor Programs marketing, and assist with equipment cleaning and
organization and other projects as interested and assigned. |
Summer Youth Activity Program Counselors |
Counselors
supervise program participants (ages 6 - 11) through daily activities,
assist instructors with class activities, assist in the implementation
of daily operations and nominate and select participants for awards.
Counselor wages start at $8.25 an hour and work M-F 8 am - 4 pm,
June 6-August 5. |
Summer Youth Activity Program Instructors |
Instructors
need to be able to teach a wide variety of physical activities (basketball,
volleyball, weight training, golf, etc...) Instructors will teach
four to five activities and assist in the implentation of daily camp
operations. Student Instructor wages are based on qualifications and
start at $8.75 an hour and work Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., June 6 - August 5.

Summer Youth Activity Program |
The
Late Care Assistant supervises all Late Care activities, assists in
the supervision of program participants during the day, assists in
the implementation of daily operations and teaches 2 activities.
Late Care Assistant wages are based on qualifications and start at
$8.75 an hour and work Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., June 6 - August 5.
