Membership Information

Membership to the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation Center is available for purchase to faculty, staff, retirees, and graduate students of Rice University as well as to their spouse/domestic partner. Summer memberships are also available for additional fess to graduate and undergraduate students. Membership to the Recreation Center for undergraduate students is included with their semester payments to the University.

Completed applications for membership will be accepted between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday) in the Recreation Center office on the second floor. Checks should be made payable to Rice University. Call (713) 348-4058 for further information.

** Family is defined as a spouse/domestic partner and children (who are full-time students, unmarried, living at home and are 18 years of age or less) of the individual who purchases the initial membership.

Graduate Students

Graduate Students can now purchase Gibbs Recreation Center Memberships through the Recreation Center Marketplace.

Fall 2011 memberships will expire on December 23, 2011. The Recreation Center will reopen for the Spring semester on January 3, 2011. You also can print and bring the attached membership application to the administrative office on the second floor of the Recreation Center.

Acceptable methods of payment are Visa, Master Card and eCheck. ***To obtain a spouse/domestic partner membership you must first obtain a Rice ID card for your spouse/domestic partner at the Rice campus police.You may not purchase a single membership for your spouse/domestic partner. A graduate student must purchase a membership for themselves and then add a spouse/domestic partner membership to their cart.

Faculty/Staff

Faculty and Staff may sign up for payroll deduction through Esther.

Summer Membership

Summer Membership for Graduate and Undergraduate students can be purchased here.

Other Information

Prior to purchasing a membership, please note that certain areas may not be available at all times and all schedules are subject to change without notice, i.e. for Orientation, Varsity Swimming Competitions, the Summer Youth Activity Program, etc. A complete schedule of operating hours, including reduced hours during holidays and academic recesses, is available online or at the Operations Desk. Check class and activity postings in the main lobby and throughout the building to avoid any conflicts and inconveniences.

All members MUST PRESENT either their Rice University or Recreation Center Member ID Card when using any of the Recreation Center's indoor and/or outdoor facilities. Use of the playing fields must be scheduled in advance and the applicable rental fee paid. It is necessary to have the ID card with you at all times as it MUST BE PRESENTED to check out any equipment. Your ID card is non-transferable. If an ID card is presented by anyone other than the owner whose name appears on the card, it will be picked up and all privileges revoked.

All guests and their sponsors MUST SIGN-IN at the Operations Desk.

Registration

• Applications are available in the Recreation Center Office (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Mon. through Fri.) on the second floor of the Gymnasium Building and at Operations Desk after 4:30 p.m. Applications received after 4:30 p.m. will be processed the next business day.
• Graduate Students can now purchase Gibbs Recreation Center Memberships through the Recreation Center Marketplace. Click here to start the process. Program registration also available through the Marketplace.
