Personal Training

Rice Recreation Center’s nationally certified and experienced personal trainers provide individual, buddy, or small group training sessions to people desiring a program tailored to their specific needs. Trainers take time to evaluate their clients' physical fitness and keep track of their progress.

What Can a Trainer Do for You?

Rice Personal Training is now offering small group training! This exciting new addition will allow you and you friends (4 max) to work with a trainer and reach your goals together, as a team. Teams may include both student and non-student members. Prices are listed regardless of status.

Cardio Room Orientation

Are you interested in using the cardio equipment in the Rice Recreation Center but not sure how or where to start? Is this your first time working out and you would like some guidance?  With the cardio room orientation a weight room team member and/or a personal trainer will spend 45-60 minutes explaining the general layout of the cardio room, guide you through set-up on the cardio equipment and discuss features characteristic to each brand of equipment. You will leave feeling empowered and with a booklet including pictures and explanations of how to use each piece of cardio equipment we have to offer.


*This is NOT a personal training session, but if you are interested in personal training the weight room team will be happy to provide you with more information.

If you would like to start weight training and using some of the machines in the weight room, the weight room orientation is a perfect start to your basic weight training goals. A weight room team member and/or trainer will take time to guide you through set-up on 8-10 machines targeting major muscle groups, ensure proper techniques, explain muscle groups being worked and provide you with all of the information covered at the end of the session.

*This is NOT a personal training session, but if you are interested in personal training the weight room team will be happy to provide you with more information.

Fitness testing is a wonderful way to chart your current fitness level and track your progress over a period of time. The fitness assessments include general tests of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, blood pressure, body composition, and more.

JumpSTART Package

JumpSTART your active lifestyle by beginning exercise in a safe, effective and educational setting. With this package non-members will have the opportunity to will meet with a personal trainer and/or weight room team member to go through a detailed consultation pertaining to your physical activity interests, goals, aspirations and potential barriers. Receive a fitness assessment to chart your current fitness level and track your progress over a period of time. Upon completion of the consultation and fitness assessment, a weight room team member will walk you through set-up and proper technique on select cardio and weight room pieces of equipment. If you are new to Recreation Center or interested in seeing what we have to offer, the JumpSTART Package is a perfect fit.

With a certified personal trainer to guide you and your buddy through sessions tailored to reach your goals, you are sure to have a safe, engaging, and effective workout. Individual Packages
To begin the personal training process, please download and complete the Personal Training Registration Packet. Turn the packet into the Rice Recreation Center Administrative office (MS-523).

Payment for your personal training service must be paid prior to training via check, cash or credit card. (Please note that fees for personal training services are non-refundable). Please note that all personal training sessions are a full hour in length and the hour cannot be split between multiple sessions with your trainer.

You will be contacted by a personal trainer or the personal training coordinator within 3-5 business days of submitting your paperwork.


Buddy Packages/Small Group Training
Each individual must complete the personal training registration packet. Turn all packets into the Rice Recreation Center Administrative office (MS-523) together along with payment. All parties must complete all information prior to starting sessions.

Registration for the aforementioned can be found online and paid via credit card. The links to each are found below. You will be contacted within 48-72 hours by a personal trainer and/or weight to begin.

Registration Process for JumpSTART:
Registration for the JumpSTART package can be found online and paid via credit. Click here. You will be contacted within 48-72 hours by a personal trainer to begin your consultation and fitness assessment. Weight room and cardio room orientations will be conducted by a weight room supervisor.

Late Policy

Personal training clients are responsible for arriving in a timely manner to their sessions. The personal trainer is required by policy to wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled start time before the session is forfeited. If a client's session begins late due to the client's late arrival, the trainer continues with the session and ends at the scheduled time.

The Rice Recreation Center and Rice University will become the training facility for personal training services during the time of the appointment. Trainers are not permitted to train clients under any other conditions or circumstances.

Transfer Policy

All personal training sessions are non-transferable. All personal training packages must be paid in full and submitted to the Recreation Center Administrative Office or the personal trainer before the first session of each package is conducted. Sessions within a package cannot be split or transferred amongst other individuals such as spouses, peers, children and friends.

Cancellation Policy

Except in the event of an emergency, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for the cancellation of a personal training session. Failure to cancel within 24-hours or failure to show up for a session will result in a forfeit of the session. Exceptions will only be made in the case of a medical emergency accompanied by a doctor’s note. If there should be a discrepancy, the decision will be determined by the Assistant Director of Fitness. Personal training clients should contact their trainer directly should they need to cancel. If a client is unable to reach their trainer, they may contact the Administrative Office at 713-348-4058.

With buddy training, if one client shows up for the session, the session will be conducted and counted towards your total session purchased. If both parties fail to show-up, or cancel after 24-hours, the session will be forfeited.

Dondra Mgee

D'Ondra McGee

D’Ondra McGee is a graduate of the University of Houston with a B.S. in Kinesiology and a concentration in Exercise Science, and is currently working to complete a Masters degree in Education at U of H. She is a former member of the University of Houston Women’s Tennis Team. D’Ondra earned her Personal Training Certification in 2008 from the American Council on Exercise, is a USAT Certified Triathlon Coach, and is certified in First Aid/CPR/AED from the American Red Cross.

Here at Rice, D’Ondra is the Personal Training Coordinator, LPAP instructor, S.W.E.A.T. instructor, and Personal Trainer. Through her history of athletics and fitness, she has learned to integrate interval training, balance, flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular training to develop a client’s fitness program. D’Ondra specializes in sport-specific conditioning programs, weight loss, general fitness, and beginner triathlon training programs.

D’Ondra hopes to share her love for exercise and passion for personal fitness with others. Health, fitness, and wellness are at the top of her priority list, and her driving passions are helping motivate, educate and assist clients in accomplishing their individual goals.

Alonso Guerra-Garcia

Alonso Guerra-Garcia

Alonso was first introduced to weight training at an athletic training center in his hometown of Berwyn, PA early during high school, while preparing for soccer and basketball seasons. He learned the importance of weight training to improve an athlete’s performance and everyday life. This introduction inspired him to study different methods of training the body such as from: mixed martial arts, power lifting, plyometrics and strongman.

Since coming to Rice in 2009, Alonso has worked as a weight room supervisor and has been an active member of the Rice Rugby Club, currently serving as the match secretary. He specializes in sports conditioning, although enjoys taking clients with any goals who are looking to have a fun time getting in shape. He competed at the UTSA Strongest Man event in 2010 and currently also teaches Boot Camp during the school year.

Alonso is a junior at Brown College majoring in Economics and Managerial Science. He received his personal training certification in 2010 from the American College of Sports Medicine and is CPR/AED certified through the American Heart Association.

Caroline Gill

Caroline is certified by the American Counsel on Exercise (ACE). She has been involved in fitness and sports throughout her entire life. A recent Rice graduate, Caroline played volleyball during her college career. While she has an athletic background, her interest is in helping people reach their fitness goals at all levels as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle both inside and outside of the gym. Caroline enjoys energizing and encouraging her clients and will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their fitness goals.

Evans Amoako

Evans Amoako brings with him a strong athletic background. He has participated in various organized sports, including Soccer, Track & field, Cross-Country and Boxing. He has been the recipient of several state-wide track awards. Evans has also contributed to many national fitness magazines including Physique Magazine, World Physique Magazine, Fitness X Magazine, and Extra Fit Magazine.

Evans believes that working through physical challenges in the gym strengthens not only your muscles, but also your ability to conquer everyday stresses, leading to an elevated quality of life.

Evans Amoako is a certified Personal Trainer by International Sports Science Association. He also holds a CPR/AED certification from the American Heart Association. Evans holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration-Marketing from Southwestern College.

Evans specializes in strength and conditioning program for people of all shapes and sizes. He will help educate, motivate and support his clients with a positive attitude throughout the entire program. He offers comprehensive health and fitness training programs for clients to transform their physique. Evans unique programs provides state of the art exercise, and health information specifically structured to meet the individual needs of men and women from beginner to advanced levels.
