Available Student Positions

Aquatic Program
The aquatic program area of the Recreation Center is now hiring for the following positions: lifeguard, pool maintenance and swimming instructor. We are looking for Lifeguards with current American Red Cross certification. If you do not have training yet, or have training from a different organization, you can apply in the Lifeguard Needs Lifeguard Certification’ category. Several training classes will be available year around.

Operations
There are two Facility Attendant positions available: Operations Assistants and Facility Managers. As an entry level position, the Operations Assistants will supervise the facility and the operations at the Recreation Center. Working primarily behind the Operations Desk, the Operations Assistants provide patrons with equipment, towels, fitness passes, program information, etc. and handle customer requests for racquetball and squash courts as well as assisting with locker rentals. Operations Assistants are also responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures of the department and control access to the entire facility. Facility Managers, a second level position earned through promotion, are responsible for all of the above, and must roam the facility constantly and assists patrons with set ups for scheduled events and supervise Operations Assistants on duty. Group Fitness Leaders
This person is responsible for leading group fitness classes in a safe and proper manner. This requires knowledge of proper and improper exercise techniques and practicing a healthy life-style, both inside and outside the work place. Weight and Cardio Room Attendant and Supervisor
Weight Room Attendants oversee the weight and cardio room by maintaining cleanliness, order, and enforcing policies and procedures. Attendants ensure the safety of patrons by offering assistance and information as needed. Attendants are also responsible for conducting weight and cardio room orientations as needed. Intramural Sports Officials
No experience necessary. You will be trained through the Intramural Sports Office. Officials are responsible for sport officiating and game management. If interested please email us at ims[at]rice.edu

ROPE - Outdoor Trip Leader
ROPE Trip Leaders are responsible for the overall facilitation of an assigned trip. Leaders are expected to create and foster meaningful environments for trip participants, while simultaneously ensuring the mental and physical safety of each individual. This position requires interpersonal communication skills, the ability to think critically and the flexibility to work both independently and with a co-instructor. ROPE – Outdoor Adventure Center Supervisor
Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) Supervisors are responsible for the overall supervision over outdoor equipment rentals, outdoor trip registrations, educational clinics, and the OAC facility. Supervisors are expected to anticipate potential problems, collaborate with other Recreation Center program areas, and maintain a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the OAC. Student Membership Assistant
The Student Membership Assistant will serve as a representative of the University, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Rice community and with the public. The membership assistant must be attentive, courteous and informative to membership inquires. This position will carry the following duties: schedule and give tours of the new facility, facilitate the sale of memberships, including handling payments, customer service and logging payments with the office assistant, and assist the Office Assistant and Department Coordinator with membership data entry.
