What You Can Do at RICE OWL
- Make an appointment to discuss your writing project with
a student writing consultant.
OWL consultants are always willing to help you no matter
what stage of composition you are in or how late you got started
(even if your paper is due tomorrow!). However, keep in mind
that papers are reviewed on a first come, first served basis.
Make an appointment by contacting
a consultant in your college or major or by filling out our
online form.
If English is not your first language and you would like an appointment
with a specially trained consultant, email Linda
Lanz with your request.
At this time our consultants are only trained to work with undergraduate
students. We encourage graduate students to contact their departments
about available writing resources.

About the OWL
OWL Consultants
Students who work as writing and presentations consultants
will review your plans for a paper, review a draft, watch a video
of a practice presentation, or answer your questions about grammar
and style. These consultants have completed a course in working
with student writers and have been nominated by Rice faculty
for this role.
OWL Clients
The Rice OWL is available to all Rice students. Consultants
are on-line from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday.
Consistency with the Honor Code
Consultants follow the Rice University Honor Code by respecting
students' goals and authorship. Consultants ask questions and
offer suggestions but do not recommend specific words or sentences.
The words the student chooses must be his or her own. Consultants
do not proofread papers and are not responsible for ensuring
that students pass or receive particular grades on assignments.
