Rice Aikido club is a student organization of Rice University dedicated to the safe instruction of Aikido.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded in the 1940s in Japan by Morihei Ueshiba ("O-Sensei"). The passage of years and the ceaseless efforts of many of Ueshiba's students have led to an expansion of Aikido beyond the borders of Japan to the world at large.

Rice Aikido Club is associated with the Aikido Association of America (AAA), a sect of Aikido formed by Fumio Toyoda Shihan; AAA has since reassociated with Aikikai International and Hombu Dojo (the home of the art) in Japan.

Rice Aikido Club has no dues; however, serious members of the club are expected to purchase a gi at some point -- this is typically done through the club for a discounted price of around $30.

This club focuses on the teaching of aikido to interested students; an attempt is made to test for belts ("kyu ranks") approximately once per semester, at the discretion of the instructor. Instruction is four times a week:

All experience levels completely welcome. If you are thinking of joining the club, please feel free to attend a practice session; you may watch or even practice with us if you wish.
