At the Airport
Parking
Both IAH and Hobby has hourly parking buildings. At IAH, hourly parking
is located at the terminal C. Just follow the signs, keep left when you
pass the terminal and slow down, you won't miss it. It will cost $1-2 dollars
depends on how long you spend in the terminal. If the airplane does not
arrive at terminal C, what I usually do is to park the car at terminal
C, take the underground inter-terminal train to get that terminal.
At Hobby, there is only one terminal. You can still park your car at
the Hourly Parking Building. Random parking before the terminal could result
in tickets.
Verifying the Flight Status
Once you are inside the terminal, go to the information screen and verify
the flight status. It could be the case that the flight is delayed and
the arrival gate has been changed. You don't want to wait at a wrong gate.
Waiting at the Gate
Hold a sign for either saying students' name (1-2 students) or saying "Rice
Students Pickup" (many students). Hopefully, new students will find you
easily. In the worst case, you do not see students you are waiting for
and someone tell you there is no more passenger on the plane, go downstairs
to the baggage claim and try to find them there.
Emergency
If the worst things happen, such as you do not see the people you are waiting
for, please contact
me
or any other committee members. We will figure out what is happening.
Leaving Airport
You probably need to rent a cart to carry new students' heavy baggage.
You can pay $2 yourself or ask new students to pay. I am sorry that RCSSC
will not reimburse you these expenses. Same rule applies for the terminal
parking fee. After paying parking fee, you are on your way back. Drive
Carefully!
