"The yellow-bellied sapsucker is a winter resident in most of texas ... The adult yellow-bellied sapsucker can be recognized by its red forehead, a black-and-white face pattern, and the large white wing-patch seen as a longitudinal stripe down the wing when the bird perches upright on a tree trunk."

I noticed them here from October through February. They were moderately common.
