Great Crested Flycatcher
Myiarchus crinitus
I have decided that this bird is not the same as that
identified as the Ash-Throated Flycatcher. This one has much
more pronounced yellow underparts, it has the unkempt crest that
gives it the name "crinitus", and its tail is much
more elaborate. The geographical distribution of the Great Crested
Flycatcher includes Houston County. "In summer it inhabits
the eastern half of Texas ..."
"[The Great Crested Flycatcher] is olive-brown
above , with a gray throat and breast and a bright yellow belly
... Crinitus is from the Latin crinis, or "hairy,"
referring to the shaggy crest. The great crested flycatcher ...
also eats berries
..."
