- The office of Equal Employment
Opportunity and Affirmative Action works closely with faculty,
administrators and staff to increase tolerance, opportunity and
diversity within the Rice community and to ensure that the University
complies with the letter and spirit of the federal and state
laws and regulations governing these programs.
In order to achieve these objectives, the staff of the EEO/AA
:
* prepares annual affirmative action plans and programs as required
by law
* monitors and approves faculty search plans and hire decisions
for both faculty and staff positions
* advises deans and administrative department heads on areas
of underrepresentation of minorities and women
* investigates and make recommendations for resolution of all
complaints alleging discrimination or harassment brought to the
attention of the director
* maintains information on sources of minority recruitment and
publications to aid in the effort to attract qualified minority
and female candidates
* advises and counsels department heads, supervisors and employees
on issues involving minority or female employees
* establishes and maintains a data base of qualified minority
and female applicants for staff jobs, to assist departments in
filling openings as they occur
* prepares and presents training programs covering topics such
as sexual
harassment, disability
law, discrimination, affirmative action, and complaint handling.
