The organ case, whose design is inspired by classical French examples, is constructed from Honduras mahogany and rises to a height of 49 1/2 feet. Polished tin façade pipes comprise the lowest notes of the Pédale & Grand Orgue Montre 32 ' & 16 ' and the Grand Orgue Montre 8 '. The 4,493 interior pipes are constructed from hammered tin, scraped tin, spotted metal, hammered lead, poplar, pine, basswood and cherry. The console en amphithéâtre has 94 drawknobs of ebony and cocobolo. The manual keys are covered with bone and ebony. The mechanical key action is augmented by a servo-pneumatic machine connected to the Grand Orgue manual which eases manual coupling and octaves graves. The wind is supplied by a 6 1/2 hp blower at 3 inches for the manuals and 4 inches and 5 inches for the Pédale. The instrument arrived at The Shepherd School on January 15, 1996, and tonal finishing commenced on March 4, 1996. Voicing was finished in March 1997. |
